Everyone, I just read an Associated Press (AP) release that states that a single production run of "LiveSmart Weight Management Chicken and Brown Rice Dog Food" manufactured by SmartPak has been recalled. I am not familiar with this brand.
This was at the end of the article from the AP stating that the F.D.A. has quarantined swine at a California facility. These swine were fed scrap dog and cat food blends that are possibly tainted with the melamine derivitive. F.D.A. officials are investigating whether swine in New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, and Ohio have ingested this substance. Swine farmers typically purchase the leftovers and waste from dog and cat food manufacturing operations.
The F.D.A. plans to test the vegetable proteins at firms who imported these materials that are used for the manufacture of items such as pizza dough, baby formula, energy bars, and protein shakes.
