Hello. I'm going to buy a female in Germany. She is two months old, and of course she dont have the vaccination against the rabies. My uncle lives in Germany , so he is going to meet the kennel owners to bring me the female by plain(he is coming too) I would like to know if he is going to face any problem in the airport ? Please if you any problem that he could have please let me know. Thank you

You aren't required to provide proof to Customs that an imported pup has had its rabies vaccination until the pup is three months old. You have to agree to quarantine in your home any unvaccinated dog or pup that you import regardless of age. If the pup is older than three months, there are three options: a) have the pup vaccinated before she is imported (which most vets don't like to do); b) have the seller arrange with his vet to have the health certificate state that the pup was vaccinated when in fact she wasn't, and then get her vaccinated later by your vet after she is here; or c) import the pup and quarantine her in your home until thirty days after she is vaccinated.

Is this shipping within Europe? Or shipping out of country? I think there may be different regulations.

I imported a female puppy the first of February. She had her first set of shots but no rabies. There wasn't any problem with customs in Oregon. But they did say she needed to be quarantined for 30 days.

I guess I should have said she was 8 weeks old.

Actually the U.S. regs are that the pup has to be quarantined until 30 days has elapsed AFTER the rabies vaccination is given. And Customs is supposed to notify local animal control that you have imported an unvaccinated dog so that the locals can follow up and make sure you are obeying the quarantine - but I would doubt there is much follow-up being done.

but I would doubt there is much follow-up being done, that is not so. Depends here you are. In California, They do follow-up. They also get twisted if you do not follow the rules.

As I know you can not board pup on plane without health certificate and your pup must have shoot against rabies. From my experience I will suggest to shoot with inactive vaccine as I have many bad cases with live vaccine. Live vaccine is attack on young puppy immune system and your puppy can catch some health problems like skin dermatitis, allergy, demodex ... With inactive vaccine I have not got jet problems on puppy. And you can contact Gradlyn for shipping. http://www.petshipping.com/eng/index_eng.htm

For traveling inside Europe for puppy I think that you do not need anything. But if you want to take puppy to plane cabin with you I think that you must check rules with flight company. The best is Lufthansa. Check procedure on Portugal airport.
