Hey, what do you think of my boy duke, this is my favorite piture of him. also, what do people think about white shepherds being a seperate breed, what about american shepherd and european shepherd being a seperate breed? My boy has many white shepherds in his pedigree.

bun bun, Though I am into working dogs and dogs that pass on these qualities, I believe that it is personal taste as to what you want. If you love your dog, and make a good home for him, and if he loves you and desires to please you, then you have a good combination. Sorry, I was just going to say as a real working dog person that has always had little patients for dogs that did not meet my standards, I can appreciate the fact that you have a dog that is nice looking and you and him are buds, and thats whats important. Enjoy him!

The white coat color is not acceptable by either AKC or SV standards. Naturally, people who fancy white GSD's take offense to that, so they have "created" a new breed called the Swiss White Shepherd that is not recognized by either AKC or SV. (Please correct me, folks, if I am wrong). This is their attempt to legitimize the coat color and to continue breeding them. Unfortunately, this makes for a shallow gene pool as the white coat color is a recessive trait, and thus this "breed" will not have much opportunity for genetic diversity in the long run. As to the European vs. American Shepherd... Gawd I wish they would declare them as separate breeds! Rename the watered-down American version as the American Trotter or something. But the whole matter gets a little confusing because many "American" bred dogs are from imported stock or their crosses. Muddies the water a bit. Nevertheless, the over-angulated, tweezer-headed AKC specialty show shepherd represents an extreme form bred for aesthetics and not working ability. I wish the AKC would reclassify those gangly dogs. But that's just two cents worth. Take it or leave it as you wish.

I can agree with American shepherd being classified as a seperate breed because of body type and most of all tempermant but not I sure if i agree with having a color of a dog being a reason to seperate it from the rest of the group. I personly don't understand the reason why white is considered a fault to begin with. Didn't the creator of the SV own White shepherd himself and wasn't it a one point that Herding dog were perfered to be bred white so they are not mistaken as wolves and also to blend in with the folk of sheep. Well i not an expert on this. well my boy has many white lines in him, and he's a bi-colored shepherd. i even had a All balk pup at one time that came out of a white shepherd, its just color.

I have nothing against whites but I have seen very few that I would consider a good example of a GSD. I know their are a few but overall most whites are inferior. I have spent alot of time researching into whites plus have seen quite a few over the years and based on that knowledge I have this opinion of whites. If you like them more power to you.
