According to Reuters Business Royal Canin USA has voluntarily recalled all of its DRY PET FOOD PRODUCTS containing rice protein concentrate after it found a MELAMINE derivative in some products...
Melamine is an industrial chemical used to make plastics and fertilizers...They say its a "proactive" stance but it makes you wonder...
I could never use that dog food again...
We have been officially warned...Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news about dog foods...Who or what is next...???

This contamination is from China, a country with favored nation status as a trading partner with the US. According to the story that I read the contamination may be intentional. Melamine, as an additive makes the protein content of a product test higher than it acualy is so that the product can be sold at a higher price. Bottom line is that they are intentionally poisoning their product for economic gain. What do you expect from a country that not too long ago clubbed to death thousands of dogs? I, for one am now refusing to buy product that are manufactured or grown in China.

I only feed a little Canidae, it has rice in it. Is there any way to find out where the products are grown? Like USA vs China??

I am so tired of this and truly do not understand why this is not TOP NEWS.
I am of the thinking that all of the CEO's of the dog food industry should be appointed helpers for Boban vom grauen Monstab.
Maybe we we should issue them an invatation. Or the New owner could be benevolent and send them all a cute/cuddly new puppy from him after he is mated with a Crok female that has some inbreeding.

I also want to know why so many dogs are sick, and the vets are not coming up with reasons for the illness. I know of personally 5 dogs (all different breeds and different parts of the county, and not the same age) right now in and out of hospitial with vomiting and diarrhea and not one of them has been given a diagnoses. Vets just saying we do not know what it is, all getting IV fluid under the skin. How about the older dogs, this is going to be blamed on thier age.

Do not be shocked when we are finally told this contamination has reached the human food chain. It looks like some livestock animals in the US have been eating food containing melamine boosted protein sources imported by US companies from China. Read the above link.
Trailrider, you can ask the compnay that makes Canidae to disclose their protein source. When RC was asked they said it was propriatary information. I guess we now know why.

Maybe this should go under its own heading but my vet called us and said return the Heartguard.
It seems that Heartguard has the wheat gluten in it that was recalled.
I haven't heard anything more than that. I just returned it and they gave me Interceptor in its place.

canine_karla, please do put it under it's own heading, alot of us are so tired of this, they may skip over it. to important for anyone to miss. Thank you for the info.

I will do that.
Just posted another article found this morning that states this may all be intentional by someone possibly China.

Unfortunate that this has happened to so many different companies and affected who knows how many animals and their companions.
