Hav ya all noticed no USA Web siteKennels have links (U.S.)to friendly kennels like German web site do?? Why is that? I once heard a kennel say "they did not want BUYERS to know other kennels do exist". Is this true?

by altostland on 11 April 2007 - 15:04

This is not true - I know many websites, including my own, that have links to other kennels. You may say that FEW kennels have links to other kennels, but it is wrong to say none do.

Sue, that is an accurate observation on your part. I would say that some of it has to do with the vast expanse of the U.S.A. compared to Germany, and the fact that the Germans are a very close-knit group as a people. There are significant cultural differences and this is noticeable in the GSD world. But of course you know this. Many, and certainly not all of the The German breeders tend to work as a team to produce the best dogs. After all, the GSD is THEIR dog and a strong source of pride. On my website I do not have direct links to other kennels, but If I have a dog or bitch from another kennel the contact information for that kennel is on the individual dog or bitch's page. And if I do not have any puppies for sale (which is at least 90% of the time) I do post links for these kennels on my website. Perhaps that makes me a bit unusual, but I do adhere to the saying "if you want to get even with someone-remember those who helped you." Unusual topic but certainly worth mentioning. Bob-O

Thanks Altostland. I should have typed "somewhat accurate" instead of "accurate" in my opening sentence. I was on my first cup of coffee! I am glad to see that someone else here is not selfish with their involvement in the GSD world. Bob-O

I have other kennels listed in my links, both in the USA and in Europe. If I have no puppies for sale, I direct buyers to other kennels.

There are many kennels in Germany that exchange links with breeder's. There are several that have exchanged also links to forums such as our www.ddrlegends.com site. It helps promote their kennels and dog's.

I personally post where I bought my dogs from to say "Thank you" to the breeder/kennel but also for any one looking for a puppy. Since I do not have but one litter a year I give referals all the time. I also post my friends kennels and they post mine.

The kennels I talk to or have done business with share links to other kennels and sites, so I find that statement not true. I have seen more than one US kennel advertise pups for another on their websites as well. I see it as a sign of a good breeder. You shouldn't be affraid of a little competition, especially if it's not about the $. I like a breeder who is giving a service not just selling a "product". I will continue going back to the people who are friendly and helpfull even if it means not padding their own pocket.
