is it normal for pregnant female to bleed, just like in heat???

by DKiah on 02 April 2007 - 01:04

I would have to say no..it is not normal.. how far along is she?? Has pregnancy been confirmed by ultrasound or snap test?? Is she acting normally? eating? drinking more or the same as usual?? What is her temp?? What color blood is it? and how much? Any pus or sign of infection such as odor?? I did have a bitch once who had some slight discharge at about 4 weeks.. she delivered by c-section as she went past her due date but it was a normal healthy litter, now about to turn 10 years old..

I had a Female do this, and was bad news for me. She ended up with Pyometra and was Spayed. I would say have her checked by a Vet as soon as possible. She was into her 28th day, and day 30 she started with the pus coming out. Took her in for a xray and was loaded with pus. Good luck with your female and hope all is ok. I paid a bundle for my import and only had 2 litters.

Pyometria can be dealt with, without spaying a bitch, and she CAN come back to have normal litters. Do have her checked for Pyometria, but she could also have a "split" heat and did not ovulate on the first one. Your vet should be able to check for Pyo and also progesterone.

i would'nt be so worried, it's guite normal a pregnant female bleeds a little around her 26th day of pregnancy. She probably is aborting some puppies. May be there's too many of them, maybe they're not good enough. One of my females have done this twice out of her 5 litters. I still got puppies both of these times but litters where small (4). If Your bitch has normal temperature and looks happy the bleeding most probably will stop 4-5 days later. Good luck and I hope it will help You a little.

No matter what, she needs to be looked at... sorry I didn't say this in my first post... Anytime you have a question with most anything medical it is always better to take your dog to the vet...

Bleeding during a pregnancy is never a good thing. Take her to your Vet and have her checked out.
