both, I'm curious too getting ready to prelim my little fart, wondering about an elbow

In the united states through Schutzhund USA it is 60 or 70 USD hips only. Dogs must be 1yr of age to A-Stamp. I believe OFA will take them earlier on prelim. It never hurts to prelim a pup at 6 months but unless there is shaping, arthritic changes, damage, etc it is not uncommon for laxticity to go away with age/tighting of ligaments. Puppyhood does wierd things with a dogs body that is for sure.

Okay, if you're talking about having x-rays, anesthesia, placement, films, and then submission to the SV while the dog is IN Germany (which is what you stated), you're probably looking at approximately 200 euros, give or take, and depending on the vet. The "MOST" it can cost?? Well, if someone has to drive a long distance to get to the vet, if multiple x-rays have to be taken, if if if.....you can easily double that to 400 euros. There are many ways it can cost a small fortune, one of which is your dog basically dying on the table, and having to be "brought back"....and worse, if your $4000 dog dies and they can't bring it back...you get my point. -Melanie

I'm still wondering on the best way to go, Pen hip, A stamp or OFA. What does everyone else do? This guys elbow is bothering me, I'm not worried about hips at all. The waiting is killing me and I want to know sooner than later, what is going on inside the little guys bones. I would hate for him to not pass. Also wonder if the front leg is a Pano. One can only tell on film, so why wait any longer right?

Pack, Go OFA you can do prelims and then come back at 24 months and get both hips and elbows done.

by Dhuinulfr on 15 March 2007 - 12:03

Think about doing the elbows, as the SV has certification for this now.

Vet fees are 150-250 Euros on average for HD and ED x-rays in Germany. If more x-rays need to be taken its the vets fault, no reason to pay for a vets blunders. There are lots of vets in Germany that are SV certified and can take the x-rays, usually within a half hour drive. After that x-rays have to be submitted to the SV, which costs 35 Euros for HD certification, 32 Euros for ED certification. SV requires ED for dogs born after Jan 04 so it should be done anyways. You canot breed in Germany under SV rules without ED any more. DNA is 52 Euros at the SV, plus vet fees. Good idea to have it done at the same time. That only applies to dogs in Germany. If you are in the US contact the USA or WDA for fees. You cannot do the a-stamps yourself, you have to use one of those two organizations.
