DesertRangers

by DesertRangers on 12 March 2007 - 00:03

Since I already know what I know, at times I like to visit and train in new groups and areas. Sometimes I act like I don't know much and let them fill me full of their training methods. Then after I leave I can take it or forget it. But sometimes I learn somthing that really works for me. Moral of post it's sometimes Better to Listen than to talk.

As with learning training horses, I learned more when my mouth was shut!

Good post D.R. One of the more difficult lessons to learn in life.In fact A constant learning experience. Everytime I think I have the answers something happens to humble me. When I realize I have much to learn then I become teachable. Wish I could always be the latter.

Surely you learn more by talking less and listening more.

Desert Rangers, Your statement is so true. Sometimes though it's hard to act like I don't know anything when something is being done obviously wrong. Other times it has paid off for me to sit back and watch and listen. Especially when it's a repair man fixing something I'm not familiar with. Funny how many men will show a female how to fix something and think we girls are pretty dumb and wouldn't think to do the repair the next time ourselves. That has paid off for me many times over. Thanks guys! Birdy...

i agree with the part of keeping your mouth shut. i use to feel the same about, "Then after I leave I can take it or forget it." then i heard it told "take what you can use, and put the rest in your pocket" your next dog might be diferent and need a diferent style of training, or your expanded knowledge might be usefull to someone else. ive read a few books, watched some videos, been to seminars and trials,, always absorbing everything i can. i even have notebooks that i write new ideas down in. even if i dont use them, one of the other club members may benifit from it. john
