what are your thoughts on ringsport? why basically malis do the sport? ringsport 3 they jump over 7 1/2 ft vertical walls. when was the vertical wall taken off schutzhund and why? what percentage of german shepherds you think could do ringsport and make it to ringsport 3? it looks like a more strenuous sport than schutzhund, also seems to simulate reality a little more closely than schutzhund? what are your views on this sport? thank you for all comments! max.

I agree. Ought to be very interesting reading here in the next week or so. I do not have any opinions on this (yet) but I am interested. I hope there are enough Mal owners/trainers here to make the discussion equal :)

I saw the ring sport on Animal Planet. Not too impressed. I would imagine that French or Belgian Ring is better. Max, what reality does it simulate?

most of the german shepherds would have a hard time with the jumps. at ring 3 the jumps carry alot of points. the gsd of today is just not selected as much for jumping just because there is no need to select for 7 ft jumping dog. but there does seem to be a movement in the working gsd that seems to favor a smaller quicker dog. these smaller faster gsd's are favored because they look very flashy in the ob. i do think some of these smaller lighter framed german shepherds could do the jumps. if breeders started using jumps as a breed requierment then i think in a short period of time we would have lots of gsd's that would be able to do the jumps in ring. and the same is true for the malinois if they took out the jumps in ring the malinois would change also.

ring sport is the hardes sport around a dog has to be hard as nails to do it i love the protecion part ob dont care for to hard on the dog why shepherds have a hard time with it now breeders dont want to breed good hard working dogs they want the show & flash for big bucks

Topthat, why does the dog need to be "hard as nails?" Did I miss something? The ring event I watched on television last week showed all the dogs working in prey drive. Can you define hard as nails? What did I miss?

"Hard as Nails" ... I believe would be a good statement for goal of Körung 3 ....and If I'm not mistaken there is only one "hard as nails" Mal to ever get this title in the World. "Hard as Nails" is a good statement if you know about different Rings and competition to get you there. Just my opinion.

..as far as French Ring ... if a dog can excel in French Ring the dog can undoubtedly also excel in any of the other protection ring disciplines with ease. IMO.
