I am considering importing a dog from the Czech Republic. I have often imported from other European countries without a problem. Does anyone have any recent experience with bringing a dog from Czechloslovakia and if so, is there anything in particular I should know, any paperwork I want to be sure I get, vaccines I want to be sure the dog has prior to shipment (I have already asked what the dog has had and am waiting for an answer) etc.
You can reply here or to me privately at:

Thank you.
Hodie, I would suggest JMO that you clarify the paperwork with the seller 100%. What the seller does or does not have in their possesion at the time of sale. Med records are a must and if adult dog of course their scorebook.
The export pedigree will take 6 months. Don't expect it sooner, just make sure the seller turns it in to the registry over there or you'll be sending it back ,maybe they can send you a copy while you wait.
Vaccines are the same as any other country because they are meeting US Customs regulations.
I have never imported from there but I was talking to a person at our club trial who was in the Czech Republic and saw a dog in person and she was going to buy him. When the breeder brought the dog to the airport a few days later, it was a completely different dog. So be careful! Not to say you cant trust someone over there, but I train with a guy who is from there and he would not dare try to import from there unless he was there in person. Just food for thought!

hodie:
I imported my dog from the Czech Rep. recently; it was my first experience so I asked a lot of questions...all dogs regardless of age have to be examined by 2 different vets, all the vaccines and medical history will be on the pet passport that will be attached to the crate when you pick the dog up from the airport. The paperwork does take at least 6 months to transfer and the scorebook more than likely will come at that time too. I'm still waiting for mine and it's been since Oct. My experience was pretty painless and effortless and I was pleased with the dog.
Hodie,
Check with Julie at vombanachk9.com She has lots of info on Czech importing.
hodie, i did it last year/ all by my lonesome. never been happier with the dog, paperwork was all done in 4 mths!!!!
I'd also talk to Hans from Alpine K9, he was super nice when I was trying to track down info on my Czech dog.
Regards,
Melanie
I started another post without seeing that there were new ones here that answered some of my questions:
I would like to ask about the Slovakian imports-- Do these take longer also?
How about Czech/Slovakian exporters who are not really experienced in the process of exporting dogs to the USA? For example only-- the exporter is not experienced like EurosportK9 is experienced? (I've heard EurosportK9 are great when exporting dogs.)
Any other experiences you would not mind sharing concerning exporting dogs from the Czech Republic and Slovakia?
Thank you very much in advance.
