Barbaro was euthanized today. So sad after he fought so long and hard to recover.

Oh, I hate to hear that. What happened?
by DKiah on 29 January 2007 - 20:01
Too many problems.. he developed laminitis in the right leg, the good one and then got an infection in the injured one again.. it was just too much.. very sad

What a shame!!

The right hind ankle, pastern and cannon bone healed, but he couldn't beat the laminitis in the left hind hoof. And you're right DKiah, it sounds like that abcess in the right hind hoof was just too much.
Godspeed Barbaro.

He was so beautiful...right from the beginning, you knew it would end like this, but he had such courage, and things looked so good for a while...I really had my hopes up for him. What a tragedy! God Bless his owners for trying so hard. My heart goes out to them. jo

Wow, the news just keeps getting worse. Thats too bad, I thought he had it licked. He was fortunate to have owners that tried so hard for him. He was a great horse with allot of heart. Very heartbreaking for me to hear.

I read that Barbaro's dam is carrying a full sibling to him, will be born this spring. It will be ineresting to see if it was genetics or true greatness of spirit.
Godspeed Barbaro.
