Hi all,
Just wondering what you all use to worm your litters with, and on what schedule.
Thank you

Wow, I had to dig through some records. At the ages of six (6) weeks, nine (9) weeks, twelve (12) weeks and so forward until the puppies are old enough to use an oral product such as Interceptor. The dewormer I use is Strongid-T, and the oral dosage is administered by the weight of the puppy. I have no bad experiences with this dewormer.
The puppies are going to the veterinary office on these intervals and we usually take a stool sample from at least one (1) puppy. It is always negative for worms, but we still check. Since my first (and fortunately only) experience with Coccidia, we do check for other parasites during the stool examination.

Strongid-T or Nemex II, for roundworm and hookworm, but puppies should be wormed at two-week intervals, BEGINNING at 2 weeks (2, 4, 6, 8.) After that, I like Safeguard or Panacur (both contain the active ingredient Fenbendazole)which gets roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and Tapeworm

Altostland, what you recommend is not a bad idea. I have been very fortunate as far as worms are concerned and never had any in all of these years. But again, I have been very forturnate.
I can understand that worms are more prevalent in certain areas, and certainly during the warmer months. I tend to produce the annual litter during the colder months, so that is perhaps why I can use a later and less frequent deworming schedule. I understand easily how that can change. Good post.

We start at 3 wks of age, and go 3,5,7, and 9 our pups do not go to new homes until week 9.
We like to use Pyrantel Pamoate which gets all your small strongiles, hooks, whips, and for the tapes we use a "contraversial" Praziquantel found in the forum of Equine dewormer that also contains a low amt. of Ivomec. I absolutely WOULD NOT suggest using this without your Veterinarian's advice and clearance.
a miss dose could be deadly.
But we have worked with our vet and have a dose that is easy to measure, But can not, will not, post it here as I would never advise someone else on this product because of the risk involved in "over" dosing.
might be worth discussing it with your vet though, as the cost is minimal compared to most products out there, and it is highly effective !! Never had a worm in any pups, at the time of sale, ie. health check.

My last litter, with a different vet suggested to do first worming at 8 weeks. I was not comfortable with this but gave it a shot. { stupid me } When I saw what came out of them the next day I nearly lost my cookies. I will never do that again.ever.
Thanks for all your advise everyone

I agree with Echomeadows, I start at 2 wks and go every 2 wks also. The equine wormer is also what I use but I also would not advise anyone to "wing it" because you can kill your dog. Excellent post.
