Here is my soon to be first foster. Her name is Kohl. When I went to see her the shelter I was amazed at her temperment and how nothing at the shelter bothered her even with all the noise and commotion. She was turned in by her owner because she is very energetic and she kept knocking over the kids. All this girl needs is a leader and obedience and chance to find a great home. On top of everything else she is georgeous.

Very nice looking dog. Good of you to give a home to the homeless. I have five I got from shelters, all "fixed". Two Rott's and three Bull Mastiff/Boxer mixes. I have not been dissapointed in any of them as far as temperment, ability to be trained nor trustworthyness (is that a word?). I also have three GSD's imported from Germany that cost a pretty penny and two of the five (female Mastiff/Boxer mix and a male Rott) from the shelters are "better" all around dogs than the imports.
I know a trainer of narcotics dogs who gets mainly free dogs from people giving them away. They are outstanding dogs just more dog than the owner wanted or could handle.
What a gorgeous dog this girl is! I hope she finda the perfect home.
Jettasmom, she is lovely. Is that really the length of her nail growth? At such a young age.
Well, in this country the statistics lie at 80 million dogs and cats that are euthanized each year.
I bred my own very promising first A-Litter and have had so many disappointing experiences from this that I have sworn never to breed another litter again, despite my dog's breed worthiness.
It breaks my heart. Our next project is to work with the GSD Rescue Camp Wolfgang to get some of the 300 GSDs in rescue into homes.
I saw the post "is the market oversaturated". Yes, it is!!! And our breed coming out as the 3rd most registered breed does not help much either.
Sunshine,
Yes, her nails have not been cut for quite awhile. Since she is going to the vets for a check and to have her hips x-rayed, her nails will be cut. When I get her home I will work with her so she can get used to the dremel and the clippers. Other then her long nails she looks to be in great shape. She will need a bath though.
What a beautiful girl! She looks so nice and so happy! You certainly will never regret getting a foster dog. Some of my very best dogs have been fosters and I feel very fortunate to be able to say that I rescued these sweet babies and found them wonderful homes. It is very rewarding. Hats off to you and good luck with your girl!

That pic was taken at the shelter. I can only imagine how she will be when she comes to me. I will be updating her pics and her progress.
Rescue work is Heartbreaking and Rewarding, some of the most rewarding work you'll ever do, and at the same time it will break your heart to see them leave, the tears you shed will be a mixture of happy and sorrowfull tears. I have a pic of a dog that was going to be PTS here when he was brought in, I asked the owner here to allow me a few days with him, On day 4 he finally picked his head up, until then I would dilligently cover him with blankets, change his blankets underneath, offer him water from a syringe, and offered nutri-cal from my fingers. He made it, It was a very long recoverey process about 2 months, but he continued to make progress and spent much of his time in the office with us at the shelter, He was adopted to a family with 2 little boys who were terrified of dogs, Magic we called him won them over and those boys now sleep on this dog, I baul like a baby when I see that photo, to know that this one dog changed those boys lives forever is a moving feeling to say the least. But the whole process broke my heart I absolutely fell in love with this dog, But was so happy he got a family of his own.
Jettasmom, Good for you for taking this on, A big Thank You !!
This turns my stomach, to give her up because she knocks the kids over.
I fell in love with this breed on a "foster". I hope she finds a forever home that loves her. People give up thier dogs just about the time they are getting ready to settle down. How stuipd.....
