Now, I am certain that this topic has been hashed to death here, but I missed it so I'll ask. What is with this "breed." Is this person looking for akc recognition? http://www.shilohshepherds.org/zion/

She's looking for "God Status" AKC she does not need them, She has her own breed registry. Makes no sense to me to take 2 wonderful breeds and ruin them by making them mutts !! I could go on but will keep this short.

I guess each breed gets started somehow. These "Shiloh Shepherds" are personally one that I have heard nothing but bad about (hips, health, etc), but you always hear more bad than good about any given topic, I think. Ultimately, it is up to each individual whether they wish to purchase an animal. I think it is sad and unfair for the future owners and puppies produced if the dogs have such health issues, and the breeders keep breeding those dogs. I do not keep close tabs on that "breed", so I have no idea what the founder is trying to accomplish. Perhaps ask them directly?

It's like creating any breed of dog, selective breeding to get what you want.

A friend of mine raised these dogs for ten years, trying diligently to breed OUT the many health and temperament problems, begging others to bring in outside healthy stock, but hit a brick wall with all of them. They continued using the same dogs with the same problems, and she was ostracized for being the ONE who tested hips, elbows, cardiac patella, thyroid and CERF, and discovering all the problems, then for being outspoken about the problems. She stayed in as long as she did, hoping to salvage the breed, but it was all for naught. Now she breeds German Shepherds and still performs health tests everything, with far better results.

Although I had seen these dogs in website pictures, I had never seen the real (?) thing until this past week during a trip to the hardware store. GSD ears and face, but a huge body with a sable longcoat. I estimate that this dog weighed one-hundred fifty (150) pounds, as it was that large. A terrible thing to do to a dog. Bob-O

YUK! Sad indeed.

I examined some of the material at the website referenced by the link in the first post. Wow, what I see is a major pissing contest by the "breed" founder and another woman who has alternating claims. Perhaps for each to become a legend in their own minds while producing a mixed-breed dog. Talk about egos: you guys know the words for mutt breeders. Bob-O

maybe they should call it a collie-doodle.

Or a Shollie?
