The OFA site has drawings and pictures of what each rating looks like. Does the SV have something similar? It would be interesting to see what each "a" rating looked like in a picture. Thanks in advance.

Dont think they do, I have never seen it. My vet has a book with pictures one can review.

Thanks Mike I've read it's difficult to compare OFA to SV ratings. Any insight on which OFA rating most often compares to which SV rating? Or visa versa.

OFA GOOD T I think mates to the "a" stamp of SV. Recently had my 2 yr old done OFA and he was rated OFA GOOD on hips and Normal on his elbows. Took a friend with me to have his male X rayed and he was sending into USA for "a" stamp. My vet showed him the book and told him he felt his dogs hips were fair. I had my results and X rays returned in 2 weeks and I believe he is still waiting! Common knowledge is that OFA not giving out many Excellents.

Animules, this link is not for a GSD site; I think that it is for Rhodesian Ridgebacks. It does give some pictoral views of differing hip quality, but not x-ray examples. http://www.lady-ridgeback.sk/tab-dbk.htm I have never seen a pictorial publication by the S.V. concerning the hip grades. Bob-O

Thanks Mike and Bob, Our male recently came back OFA good hips and normal elbows. I was just curious about an "A" stamp comparison. Our other male came from Germany with an a1 hips. Mike, you received the X-rays back? I was under the impression OFA kept them?

yes T. if you send OFA an additional check for $5.00 they will return your X rays to you. Think I had mine back about 3 days after I received the results.

GSDBrisko

I have seen dogs that were OFA good and go 'a' normal and fast normal. My dog Brisko is OFA Excellent and 'a' normal.

by Preston on 29 October 2006 - 01:10

GSDBrisko, congratulations on having an OFA excellent hip rating on your GSD Brisko. Only approx. 3% of GSDs can ever attain this rating. Truly amazing! Is Brisk on this web site? If so what is his full name? Is he standing at stud now? If so, where? What is his breeding and where are his great hips coming from?

by GSD2727 on 24 March 2007 - 15:03

Preston, I just seen that Jessica never replied. I am her sister and the breeder of her dog Brisko. His full name is Brisko vom Haus Weinbrand and yes he is listed on the website as well as all of his littermates. I have his sister Brat who is also OFA good H&E and 'a' normal. Brat and Brisko are both ZW#74. Their mother Olivia vom Reichtal is OFA good H&E 'a' normal and ZW#76 I believe. Their sire Kimo vom Sigisliebe is 'a' normal ZW#78 I believe. Kimo is an Aly son as well who is known for good hips. Olivia (Libby) is almost 10 years old and still works and does bitework, looking like a 4 year old! Last I heard, their sire Kimo was still doing very well at over 11 years of age and sired a decent size litter not long ago. In my B litter we had Brat and Brisko who were OFA/'a' stamped but also had two other dogs who are working police dogs so never submitted for certification but they were Xrayed hips, elbows and one had the spine/shoulders Xrayed. All looked great. It was a very sucessful litter for me, not only health wise but also working wise with 6 of the 8 pups working.
