Hi I have been on this board for a year now and it seems the working questions are getting fewer and fewer. I am not trying to start a spat about this, but I was wondering if anybody knew of a board about just working topics. Thank you

Marty

Why dont you ask a working question?     I have one, are there any really good books for the beginner who wants to know more about shutzhund training available in the usa, something currant?

I dont know if there are other boards about only work topics.

Adogg691:

okay  here we go:  Did you get up early this am and lay a track for your working dog...?

What did you do to get your dog ready this am for tracking.?

Did you withhold food last night for the tracking this am?

What  kinds of food do you suggest for laying a track.....?     What is the best place to track a new pup ?   practice in your own yard   or go to a foreign field or place?

How many leads do you use and do you color code your leads for tracking?

Do you let your dog watch you lay a track?   When do you introduce "articles" and how do you introduce the articles to the dog.....before putting them on the tracking field....What are the articles made of and can I  make my articles?

Do you suggest someone walking beside you on your initial tracts to encourage the dog...or do you encourage the dog and how...? How many times a week do I track a learning dog?   How young is the best time to start teaching a gsd to track....

I am assuming you are a beginner..,doesnt matter, though  so I tossed out some thoughts , as when I was a beginner....watching those that knew what they were doing...and saying to myself    ....how did they do that.?

How do you get a dog to track if your pup or dog doesnt want to or shows no interest..?

I am a beginner to schutzhund and my problem is that I dont have alot of help. I am trying to go to some seminars in Feb and March but the club I that is close to me only trains on Sat. and I work every Sat. My puppy is 5 months old and I am doing foundation training. I have got Ivan's DVD obedience with out conflict. Luckly there is a company Elite K9 that is about 2 hours away that host seminars Koos is going to be there in March and Dean calderon is also coming after him so I am going to both of those. I have started the tracking but dont know how far to go and when to go farther. Thanks for the help this board has helped me learn alot already.

Thank you sueincc, I'll look for these.    Is anyone familiar with Preston Heller or this website {http://www.schutzhundtracking.com}  ?    Is this good information he offers?

yes, Two Moons that is an EXCELENT website and Preston is very helpful.  If you email him a question he will get back to you with an answer.   The website is a work in progress.   He has a real gift for explaining tracking, very easy to follow.
