Just for an emergency case: Does anyone have recipes for making puppymilk if no instant puppymilk is at home? So you can feed little puppies as first aid for some hours e.g. during a night

Here's a recipe that I use.  I prefer to use a syringe instead of a bottle with very young pups.

1 can of goat's milk.

3 oz. sterilized water

1 raw egg yolk

1 cup of whole yogurt (not lowfat)

1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup

Go to the store and buy a few cans of Goats Milk.  You can get them ahead of time and have them on your shelf in case you happen to need them. Goats Milk is the closest to dog's milk that you can get naturally.  If that doesn't work, go to your local feed store and buy a small bag of Lamb Milk Replacer.  (You can store it in the freezer and it will be good for a long time.)

I would love to see some other remedies .

Hi Akira,

This homemade formula works well for us and the pups like it too. The evap goats milk has a 7 day shelf life refrigerated. The key is the correct bottle and nipple which is provided in the info! Goodluck!

I use 50-50 evaporated goat's milk (bought canned in the supermarket) with an egg yolk in each 8 oz. mix.

This is from Leerburg site.  I have used it several times.  Sometimes with a smaller pup it gives the boost they need or to help mom out with a larger litter.

11 Calories per CC

    1. 10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or goat's milk (not pasteurized cow's milk - this will cause scowers - dogs cannot drink normal cow's milk) Goats milk is by far the best to use. Wall Mart sells it.

    2. 3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) this is not needed if using goat's milk

    3. 1 raw egg yolk

    4. 1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or fat free if at all possible)

    5. 1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup (NOT HONEY !!!)
