I am not trying to stir up any dirt or drama, just looking to buy a nice dog. Has anyone ever had any dealings with Hillsview Kennels up in Ontario Canada? I really like the look of some of their dogs, and just want to know more about them from outside the box. If anyone knows anything about them, please feel free to IM me privately about it.

Is that kennel all about labs, I have a boy lab that is out of a champion
sire and I have shown the dam & she has placed first, both the sire & dam
are OFA good hips & elbows, eyes normal.
Billy was born January 3rd 2007, there were only 3 in the litter and he was the
nicest looking pup, so I kept him, thinking I would show him, his background
is from oceanspraylabradors.com
They have American & Canadian champions.
Nicest well bred labs around.
I have Billy's uncle Harold, and do not want to have another boy around,
he is for sale at this time.
He is on the Billy page, Billy is my 5th generation of labs,
and his aunt & uncle are on Dano's labs page.

I went on their site and they do look nice. They have quite a few dogs though so the whole caring hobbist breeder thing is lost. I really like the two boys Nick, and Iso. website is http://www.germanshepherds-hv.com/

Lizbeth, I'm just curious about what you are looking for. You said you want a nice dog - how do you define nice and what place will the dog have in you life? Inside dog? Outside dog? Show? Sport? herding? Obedience? SAR? Couch potato?
Before anyone could really comment that kind of information is essential. Buying dogs is a highly personal not always a logical decision. You say you like the looks of their dogs - since they seem to have quite a great variety of types styles and lines - which ones appeal to you and why?
Now I did what I call a hit and run or a quick and dirty look at their website. Since I do not know your answers to the above questions I can not really address what you might or might not be interested in. What I can tell you is what my impressions are for me. Keep in mind I do NOT know this kennel or their animals and can only go by what I see on the web.
Also keep in mind this info only applies to me. I started with a google search to find them and the first thing I see as the #3 entry is an ad on this database saying "kennel clearance". Now for me, clearance and dogs in the same sentence sets my teeth on edge. I then go to the website and I am immediately turned off by the fact that they prominently feature the fact that they accept five different credit cards for payment - this sets a certain tone in my mind. The most prominent feature is what colors they breed for - dur pretty much all of them. I particularly loved these two lines under their breeding goals - 1.Pure German Shepherd Lines - I sure hope so since that's what they are purporting to sell - GSDs and 2. Unlimited trainability - now I've had GSds for a very long time and I'm not really sure how one would define this. German Sheperd LinesThen going down their links one by one. Puppies 3 litters w/in 2 months - two in the same month. I know how hard it is to raise a litter of puppies with the right kind of exposure and stimulization and socialization. Can't not even remotely imagine trying to do three litters within two months. One will exhaust you for quite awhile. Plus the page has ready made spots for another three litters. The rest of the pages keep telling me the same story. Lots of dogs and the only ones with titles seem to be imports not the home growns tho I may be wrong on that since this was a Q&D look plus I could not wait for some of their pages to load -I have dialup and lots of big pictures just mess with my computer.
So what does this all tell me - it appears to be a very commercial kennel - not the type of place I normally would look for a dog for me. There are some commercial kennels who do a decent job of matching dog to owner but they are just not my cup of tea and most operate on the principle money in dog out. Not saying these people do that 'cause don't know them. Also when all is said and done dogs can not help who owns them and if there is one there that fits what you want and appeals to you then who is to say if that is a wrong decision.

Very observant VKFGSD!
You're good, I've got to get back to watching the red sox,
just relieving alittle stress.........................

VKFGSD- Considering you have not personally dealt with them you pretty much hit the nail on the head. I bought a bitch from them; although she's alright I wouldn't likely buy from them again. Only reason I really did was because they had something I specifically was looking for and isn't so easy to come by. I have no problem with big outfits such as the more well known "broker/breeder" types IF they operate a professional up and up type of business and keep their potential customers satisfaction as a top priority instead of just trying to sell whatever they may be trying to move out of their kennel.

Amazing! Thank you all so very much! I want a dog that is naturally good in protection, if there is such a thing (and many maintain they have said dog). I don't want an expensive SchH sport dog or a dog to breed the hell out of. I just want a wonderful companion dog that has the ability to do good civil work, but also the social skills & intelligence to be a good service dog for me as i am partialy disabled from bad work injuries.
VKFGSD - i thought as much! Thank you for giving word to the thoughts in the back of my mind. I was particularly turned off by the fact that they have Paypal at the bottom. Do they sell dogs on Ebay, too? Lol.
anyhow, if any know of good level-headed working-line dogs (I am a huge sucker for Czech mixes) or kennels who do not have any commercial status whatsoever, please let me know!
MIRASMOM - thank you for your lab info. My hubby will love that! He wants a hunting dog in fact!
Thank you again!

Full Haus- Don't let the pay pal thing scare you off- It's actually a good thing they accept pay pal. We just discussed this on another thread actually and I just found this info out at my bank as to why it is a good idea for your protection to buy with pay pal....If you buy with a credit or debit card that has the visa or mastercard logo (I think American Express also does this) then your transaction is safe since Visa will back you up and your bank will also reimburse your account the money in the event you get snookered buying a dog that never shows up or is totally not what you asked for/sick ect. If you pay by wire transfer or send your own check/money then you're shit outta luck and on your own to fight to get any recourse.
Keep that in mind. I'd NEVER buy any other way cause you might screw me off by selling me something that isn't as good as you presented but at least I'm not gonna get conned out of sending money and getting no dog or no papers for a dog.

I decided to poke my head in again. Hi AGAR!!!!!
Full haus I am sure that if you would like more info on them Agar would tell you about her dealing with that kennel. I think that if you want a small hobby breeder type i know lots of them. If you want to go big name good broker euro sport is awsome and so is Jinopo. They will be places that must ship to you. some times you will spend a little more from them.
I try not to honk my own horn here but I have a litter due in a few weeks Czech / DDR. Both parents are on the data base.
SG-1 Xena Z Vom Weberhaus BH Bred HOT.
SG- Cesar z Jirkova Dvora Sch2 BH ( czech import)
Both dogs will be going for further titles in the spring.
