Hello,
Im at my wits end I have a five month old male puppy who cannot be house trained. I got him at 10 wks and it has been a continuous stuggle to house break him. He just will constantly use the bathroom in the house. I take him out every 30 minutes to an hour. Sometimes it might be longer than that. I pick up his water dish and he only eats at certains of day so food is never left in his bowl. Ive tried disciplining him and Ive tried ignoring him when he does it and just clean it up. What do I do? I have never had this problem with my other dogs before. The 14 month old female I have has been house broken since she was 12 wks old she has had a couple of accidents here and there but she was not even remotely close to this guy. Is it just harder to house train males?
Thanks everyone

I have found that by crate training your pup and giving him limited
space, that they learn quick not to go in the crate where they sleep & eat.
When he comes out of the crate, he goes outside till he goes potty.
Also in the house tether a leash to your belt, and make him follow
you around, don't let him out of you sight, I have a couple of sneaky
dogs that will go upstairs & crap in the hallway, when no ones looking,
they never go where we'd catch them in the act.
So just try & be one up on him.
One more thing, males have a bigger bladder, and can hold it better than females,
let him have to hold it a little longer in his crate & he'll develop more control.
By that I mean maybe overnight, 9pm to 6am.
You may be creating an environment for a small bladder, to many trips outside.
Hope that helped alittle.

Miriasmom- I personally never heard that crate training the puppy teaches them not to want to sleep or eat in their crate....
Although I don't feed my dogs in their crates, they do sleep there and they have no problem going there when it's time to come in at night since they already know what time it is-sleepy time. lol They both barrel in the house, go straight to the garage door where their crates are and each one stands in front of his crate waiting patiently for their turn to go in. If I give them the command for their kennel/crate they know where I want them to go. It's not true what you heard about crate training teaching the pup not to want to go there to sleep. It's quite the oposite since they will feel "safe" and comforted in their little domain early on.

Oh no, I meant go potty in their crate,
sorry about that! (I can see I let out the word potty!)
You're absolutely right, my dogs love their crates & I feed them in their crates,
They also know which crate is theirs!
