I would like some advice on Probiotics.
I have a 3 yr old male, who was diagnosed with EPI about a year and a half ago. Along with the EPI, he also has IBD and SIBO. I have been using Fastrack Microbial Supplement for the SIBO. I am now almost out and am wandering if anyone knows if there is a better probiotic.
I tried seaching on the internet, but couldn't find any comparisons. Primal Defense, Nature's Biotics, and Vibrant Pets Ultimate Formula are several I have found through searching. Can anyone shed some light on which is the best, or if there is a better one that I haven't found yet?
Thank you.

Hello:
Primal Defense by Garden of Life was recommended to me by a canine nutritionist. I purchsed the 81 gram size in powder form. I was told to give my GSDs 1/2 scoop per day preferably on an empty stomach. The scoop is provided with the powdered product.
I have been using it for some years now & it works out to be cheaper than giving them yogurt every day. My dogs don't have any health issues it's just a part of their health regime.

Primal Defense by Garden of Life is also what the folks on the Yahoo EPI list recomend. I've been using it for
some time now with my EPI girl who also has SIBO flair ups. I do believe it helps.

You do not need a dog probiotic those designed for humans will do; the best do not need refrigeration and should have several billion bacteria of at least two types. If they are enterically coated they will survive the journey through the stomach.
Do not forget to give prebiotics to increase the potency of probiotics, bananas are good if your dog likes them.

Thanks for the info......Primal Defense is one of the ones I was looking at. I also am a member of the Yahoo EPI group, and searched for their recommendations, but had trouble with their search engine.
Langhaar, what are prebiotics? I've never heard of them. I have to be very careful what my boy eats, changing/adding foods can have dire results, I'm not sure how bananas would be recieved by him. What do they do for his health?

they maximise the potential for good gut flora when fed probiotics.
Usually provided in commercial foods by Beet Pulp a good source of FOS (fructooligosaccharides) etc.

Bananas are also used to stop diahrea in a young pup or young dog......
In the hospital they use a Potassium drip in cases of bad diahrea....thats what we get from a banana ,,, I ve use mashed up banana in dog food when I forgot and ran out of Pectillin....
An older dog breeder and rescue pet lady, told me that they used it in the rescue shelter, as it was healthier and less harsh and less expensive that meds....
Today, that might not be true,,,,bananas are 48 to 50 cents a lb.here in Texas....not cheap any longer...
