I think the research is still too vague to consider NOT chipping my dogs.
Until I see something showing this from ID chips in dogs I will continue to chip my dogs as should everyone. I just found a little female heeler over the weekend, she was hit by a car, and I can not find her owner. She has a rabbies tag from 2002, that you can hardly read, but no name tag, nor a chip. I am pretty sure she was hit by a car. She needs to go to the vet, and I am not sure I can afford the $300.00 they want to Xray her. If she goes to the shelter and no body picks her up, I am sure she'll be put down, she is missing an eye. I will try to find her family and it sure as hell would have been a lot easier if she were chipped.
I think I'll take the chance of finding my lost dog over some rats in a lab with a tumor. Also I am not even sure if the chip in this study is the same type of chip used for ID purposes in pet chips.

What doesn't cause cancer in mice and rats? That is what they all pretty much die from... Finding two dogs out of the 10's of thousands that have been microchipped is not enough evidence for me to stop chipping my dogs. I have worked in a vet clinic for 5 years and have never seen a sarcoma caused by a microchip and we chip about 5 animals a week. The benefits far far outweigh the risks as far as I am concerned.

I agree VBK9, I've worked at a vet clinic for 8 years and have not need any "tumors" associated with the chips.
However we did have one client call us the day after that article came out wanting her dogs' microchips removed immediately! (sp?) brain fart this early a.m., not sure if i spelled that one write. :)

Not near enough information to stop me yet. We've already had all the puppies chipped before going to thier new homes. I like the combination of chip and tattoo.
