How is a dog awarded universal sieger?

by Pia on 07 September 2007 - 01:09
The dog must enter the National Sieger Show and the national SchH3 Championship . Depending on placememnt of both events a point system determines the placing for Universal Sieger.

I believe a universal sieger is selected from the dogs entered in both conformation (working class) and schutzhund trials (tracking, obedience and protection) at a national show. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the male with the highest total schutzhund 3 scores who places highest in the working class of the conformation show. In other words, the universal sieger is not just a beautiful example of the breed standard but is also a talented working dog.

ANd same applies to the Siegerin: which Pia is the expert on this:
There is an issue of SCHUTZHUND MAG which Pia is on the front cover and I loved the story inside she told of her adventure with Manta....It is one every beginner needs to read..........I loaned mine to my webmaster and he never returned it....so I dont have mine..

yellow Rose I do have extra copies somewhere . I would send you one if you like :))
Thanks for the acknowledgement I also would like to ad that Manta was sick during the national SchH3 Championship I almost pulled her after the track . Both the obedience judge and the Vice -president of the SV advised me not to pull and if so to do it on the last minute . Both of them really loved her at the Sieger Show performance test a week earlier .The vet on call could not determine what was wrong .One of my friends from the region thought she might have an upset stomach so she gave me some Tagaments which help her and I continued with her .It was not until we returned home and Manta was still not her own self , blood and urine test had been conducted I was informed how sick she really was :(( her billy rubens ( spelling ? ) where very elevated and the test was done 5 days after her first symptoms .She got into some type of chemical perhaps the grass around the hotel was sprayed and she must of gotten chemicals in her system , so her liver was working overtime :(( Vet told me he could not guarantee she would not go into liver failure within 6 months I was shocked and devastated and to think I was disappointed in her the weekend of the nationals due to her performance made me feel like a JERK ! it brought tears to my eyes here she was sick and still did it .....a dog with a true heart and a desire to work for it's handler .
To all of you believe in your dog reach for the stars and it will happen !!
I am fortunate to have her and now 2 of her daughters so perhaps one of them will step into their Mom's footprints :) Time will tell :))
Here she is watching over the working class at the recent New England Regional Conformation Show :))
Manta longbite Nationals :))

I would like a copy of the article Ms. President YR was talking about also, Pia. Perhaps you can send it via email, if it is scanned into your computer? I would appreciate it very much.

Pia: I would love one loved that magazine, all in green my favorite color too...Michael died in Febr and Im sure its at his moms...I just hate to go over there...to get a schutz book....
Her pic now, looks from side view like my Pepsii....out of Busceker schloss , Wierturchen and Tiekerhook....and she is red sable...Ill go see if I can get a side shot.....Im a terrilbe photo shot person....
I just fell in love with the love and compassion you gave off when you told your hearfelt story and how y are just human and we tend to make decisions sometimes out of our own selfworth and what we want , and then we second guess , later...finding out a set of circumstances we didnt even look for., could have made the situation a real bad one.....God kept her with you and gave y strength to pull her thru the sickness,
I wonder sometimes , when I travel , where to let the dogs out to do their business,,,,,,a lot of roadside parks use chemicals to kill weeds and bugs and how do you know if it was just done and ur dog gets the reaction.....Ill email u my address.......My schutzhund magazines are all well read and they are my second Bible around here....

The original "Universal Sieger" was started by a SV club in northernmost Germany called "OG Schleswig und Ungebung" (about 35 miles from the Danish border).
This club has been hosting the Universal Sieger (now called "Schleswiger Pokal") for 31 years. The Schleswiger Pokal is normally held in the beginning of May and consist of a Schutzhund trial on Friday and Saturday, then a conformation show on Sunday. This trial and show attracts many international and German competitors and spectators and has been won by the likes of Fritz Biehler. To win the Universal Sieger title the dog must compete in the trial and show, all in one weekend and have the highest points. This year the Universal Sieger winner in the Schleswiger Pokal was Bazi v Urbecke.
In the last few years the SV and USA have started their own Universal Sieger programs.
