These were done at 6 months of age under anesthesia.

What  do you  think?

I imagined you'd be taller than that somehow.

Is this better?

by Blitzen on 17 August 2007 - 19:08

Don't like the rim of the right socket (facing the xray); it is already showing some wear indicating a loose fit. I think this youngster is going to be mildy to moderately dysplastic in one hip. Are you aware of any sort of trauma to that side? I'd submit it to OFA for their expert evaluation.

Let him grow. I dont think there will be any  major problem. If it develops without incidents, should get his Fast Normal in Germany

My friend had a dog that was noch zugelassen go OFA excellent  when he was re-xrayed here.  I would not say a fast normal was considered borderline unless I also submitted  xrays to OFA for evaluation.  The SV considered a dog of mine  to have noch zugelassen elbows but OFA rated them clear of dysplasia.    They can go either way be better or worse than evaluated at age one when redone at two.

gsdlvr2 As you probably know the earlier you do them the less your chances of getting a proper evaluation. OFFA is good but things change as do positioning , sedated or not etc. I did my male at 6 mo. and it came back mild I believe on the left. Recently we did it again and am waiting for the results but they sure looked better this time. The positioning and sedation can have a huge impact and even OFA cannot always make the discernment. Good luck

I did xrays on my male at 12 months of age.  Sent one set to the OFA and one set to the SV.  SV gave him an  "a" normal hip rating and OFA as a prelim thought that his right him was borderline HD.  I never rexrayed the hips, though I'm considering doing that now, just to see what they look like almost 5 years later.  I xrayed his elbows at 2 without sedation and they were normal.  At that point USA couldn't send in elbow rads to the SV.  My bitch only had her xray submitted to the SV for "a" normal, she is just over 2 now, and I'm considering doing her xrays again as well.  I've also thought about doing Penn Hip on them both.  Just haven't gotten a round to it.  Since I work at a vet it's alot easier for me to just do the standard xray.  Alot cheaper too.  :)
