Hey All,
Hope everyone had a nice weekend... Some of you may remember that last month I got my first GSD pup. A male from a reputable breeder in Belgium. I am SO pleased with him! After several sleepless nights, he finally decided to behave in his crate. He learned the "sit" command in Oh, about 3 minutes and sits straight (not on his hips) and immediately every time. I also have a large fenced in yard with a couple of storage sheds and my water heater, so when he wanders out of sight and I say "Galan Come!" he runs full speed to me and sits right in front of me. Every time!!! Even when my Boston Terrier pup is chasing him or if I have company over :-) It is so awesome!
Since he is still under "home quarantine" I haven't taken him but for a few short car rides (he just got his rabies shot, so only 30 more days) I planned on bringing him everywhere right away, but I would be devastated if I got caught and he got taken from me.
I'd love to post his pedigree on the database, but many of the dogs I haven't seen listed. Since I am not the owner of either of his parents or grandparents, can I still enter them, or no?
One more question, how do I post my images IN these messages so people can view my pictures without having to copy & paste a link?
Thanks in Advance!
Stacy

You will have fun watching his dark stripe down his back spread. He's a cute pup.
You can enter his pedigree yourself. Just be very sure the sire and dam really aren't already in here. If you post their full names here and ask, there are some that would be willing to search to make sure,
Have fun with him, that's the main thing.

Thank You! I would appreciate any help.
Here are his parents and grandparents: (to those who remember me saying his kennel name on his papers would read Galan Von Der Daelenburghutte, I was mistaken. I did purchase him through Rinus.)

I just want to offer two pieces of advice. I would get that pup out no matter what. Socialization is key at this age. Four more weeks is a long time to keep this boy from the goings on of the world. Secondly, and this may be nothing because I only saw a few pics, but I would start that pup out on a smaller/thinner tug. You may have done this, but like I said I can only go on what I see. The reason I say this, is because you want the dog to get a full mouth grip and that tug may pose a problem as it is so wide. Another reason, is that when he gets a full mouth grip and wins that tug after some fighting, you want him to be able to carry the thing around. With a smaller tug, he will be able to do this easier.
Looks like a nice boy!

Julie, Nice pup! I think I am enjoying him more because he is so SMART! Granted he's a sock theif, but tons of fun LOL
Don, Thank you for the advice!
In my original post I was going to ask about taking him to the lake this week, since I thought it would be FUN for him. We'll be going for sure now. I also had an offer from a lady in my area to take him over to her place so she can check him out, and give me some tips and a personality or temperment evaluation. Looks like we'll be going there too :-)
Another thing I've been wondering about is getting him to want to play ball. I throw the ball and "show" him how incredibly fun it is to chase after it. He just looks at me and continues to go chasing and eating grasshoppers instead. Occasionally he'll run after it and bump it with his nose. And a few times he's picked it up and run off with it... But he really isn't into toys as much as I would like to see. Sticks and twigs, on the other hand, he Loves! I have even tried a Kong with a smear of peanut butter in it doesn't hold his attention very long. As for the Tug, I didn't even snap to using a smaller one for him. I actually have a few pictures of him and he is kind of holding it only with his front teeth. I will definitely get something smaller. Great Advice
Also, I wanted to mention, he's very vocal. I wondered if that is common in GSDs? If he hasn't seen me in 10 minutes he cries at me and whines and makes all kinds of noise. Does it sound like seperation anxiety? Or do you think he's just happy to see me? I know it's hard to say without seeing it. He was without a doubt, one of the noisiest and most persistent puppies I have ever crate trained LOL I even wrote the breeder and asked him if it would "ruin" him if I slammed on his crate and hollered NO like I did with every other dog, THAT is how much I want to do things right with this puppy... Anyway we overcame that, now I open it and tell him "kennel up" and he runs inside. (Ok so he always gets a tidbit for it, but still...it's neat in such a young pup) And for the most part he stays quiet at night now.
One more thing... does a pup who is extremely sensitive to the slightest correction mean anything in a working dog? Is it good/bad? I am still trying to learn the difference between a hard pup and a soft one. My pup is very quick to learn new commands, for a treat. Does that make him soft? I'm sure it's a combination of behaviors that determine that, but I'd really love an explaination or a link to read on how to judge that.
Thanks Again!
