Since Parvo and Distemper are very prevelant in this area I had planned on vaccinating the puppies at 6 wks of age with Parvo only, to be followed by the distemper only. I had thought that would be a good plan since I dont agree with the shotgun approach to vaccination. After reading the advice on vaccinosis I am confused. I have been one to always vaccinate on the every 4 week schedule as puppies with yearly boosters and if th epups immune system may be challenged by being exposed then start at 4-5 weeks with parvo only.

I would like to hear the opinions of other, more experienced people. I have never had an issue with vaccination reactions and I have given alot of vaccinations. Here is the site discussing vaccinosis. www.leerburg.com/vaccinosis.htm

read this vet's advice - Jean Dodds has done much research and the current AAHA  protocols are based on her recomendations

you can google for more pages.

I think Jean Dodds protocol is a good one to follow! I could not find the parvo shot seperate from distemper as I would have prefered giving my pup her shots that way a couple weeks apart. So  I got the parvo/distemper combo from KV Vet supply. I had to buy 25 doses! But I felt it was better than the 5 or 7 way shots. Did  your girl have her puppies yet?

Thanks for the advice :)
I can buy the parvo only at cost from my vet so that isnt an issue.

Nope no puppies yet, the waiting is going to give me a nervous breakdown for sure. I was sure she would go this weekend, was counting on it, I hate to take her to the shop with me this late in the pregnancy but unless she whelps tonight she is going to have to. My son spent the night at his friends so there will be no one here to monitor her.

Good news tho, I was able to get my hands on a window a/c unit. Did I put it in the livingroom to help cool the house? NO, I put it in the bedroom window so Xena would be comfortable, is that bad or what? LOL

She is nice and comfy now altho still panting occasionally. I am expecting a 2 am wake up call from telling me "Ma its time" I am hoping anyways, I have a full schedule tomorrow grooming and really dont want her to whelp up there, to much noise and activity.

Hey thats great,,I was gonna tell you to go to Walmart and purchase anothe window unit and put her in the bedroom   she needs to be where its safe and quiet   with music......door shut.....great deal   that will work   but you need a light to put on pups for the first day...till all dry  if they get cold they wont eat and cant be good...she will get warm but the light is a must.....pups have to be warm in an a/c room......get a heat lamp and put only a 100 watt bulb   I dont think yoou need the regular heat light    which  ...is 250......attach it somewhere close to box or pups and keep them under it as she has the others...losts of towels  to put them on while she is busy with the new one..she will take over and she may pant as if warm but thats ok   offer her water or ice cream even    vanilla only   sometimes that cools mom off   and she may not want it till shes threw...just play her game....whatever Lola wants   Lola gets...lol

Glad you found an air conditioner! I bet she is a happy camper! I hope she can have her pups there at home and a heat lamp (red bulb) hung above a corner of the whelping box so mom can get away but pups can wiggle to would be best. Pups can't control their body temp for a couple weeks (I think). It was running over 100 degrees here in July w/o any break. It also wasn't cooling down much at night like it usually does. I normally could open windows and cool our house at night, shut them during the day and the place would stay comfortable most all day. So I went and got two small window air conditioners one for upstairs and one for down. They were under $100 each at Wally-World! It made a huge difference. Then of course Murphy stepped in and nights have gotten cooler again and day temps in the 80's!
