Why do some dogs have to scutinize every last piece of food before they eat it? I had a plate of bratwurst left over from a cookout today and decided to slice them up and give my boy a treat for supper. Trigger had to take every last piece of sliced brats out of his bowl and lay them out on the rug. Then he proceeded to smell nearly every piece until he finally decided which one to eat first. I've had dogs that would have inhaled that bowl of brats without coming up for air. The only thing I can figure is he must really be spoiled to make such a ritual out of eating. At least he doesn't hide food in the ports of my speakers like the wannabee alpha male.

Some dogs are just like that.
My girls most of the time if you blink you miss them eat something. My male on the other hand takes his time too. And if it's something he's not sure of has to carry it from the kitchen to the living room carpet to decide if he really wants to eat it. Then if he's scutizing it too much, one of the girls will steal it on him to his dismay. However with something yummy like that he might eat it up right away.

And what's with the living room rug thing anyway? The messier the item, the more likely it is to end up on the living room rug for a thorough inspection before tasting; and then after tasting, or chewing, or totally slime-ing, if they decide 'no thanks', there it stays until someone finds it, hopefully not with their bare feet. Beckett likes banana peels....not to eat, but to chew and toss around. Nothing nastier than an old, dog-slimed banana peel between your toes at 3am when you're tip-toeing out to the kitchen for a drink......except maybe the part he yakked up! jo
