help, this first time mother is only showing very little signs of having puppies, we did fresh AI , she is due aug 31  , im still not sure she is pregnant , is it normal to show little signs, she was very fit and is feed raw, she sleeps alot and her feedings are a little off, teets swollen more than normal after a heat, and rib area filled out but no tummy(ha) she is driving me nuts!  i didnt do ulta sound as she gets over stress with vets so i thought i would wait and have x-rays at 60 days ,  any advise on normal first time , hope it is just small littler .be nice im learning.

Can you palpate anything along the horns? It would feel like small potatoe sized bumps. You can get x-rays at 45-50 days.

My female is 36 days into pregnancy, she is very large, eats raw, (three small meals a day since day 30), gets a lot of exercise, and she is huge!(at least 8 pups confirmed via US, most likely more) nipples are very large with hair loss about a quarter size around the nipples. Keep in mind, females still produce hormones for several months after the onset of heat, that are exactly the same as hormones produced if conception occurred. Best bet is to have her xrayed, I just think day 60 is too late. Usually, 45 days is the norm. Why? a first time momma, usually goes early around day 60.

Take a deep breath, do an x-ray at 45 days.

You can also have her ultrasounded now to find out for sure.

Most vets can examine her, as they are experience on what  and where to feel and they can use the strethoscope and maybe hear extra sounds, and if you dont want to xray, that would at least give you some idea...still push food on her , and lots of yogurt , and raw lliver, and cottage cheese,,,,,,,in case she only has one pup in there   it will only get so big and yes , it will be a large one,,,had the whole kit and caboodle to enjoy for  58-64 days.

Why did you AI her instead of natural breeding?

i took her out of town 5 times ,3 meeting and 2 attemps to mate after the 2nd time( 11 days) the male just didnt seem to get it , she was flagging but he just seem to tire out and it was very hot here, so his vet ,who is a country doctor said to bring them , he did AI not a  problem, and now we wait , so i guess ill have to take her here ,. but she hates all male vets, it doesnt matter who he is . i was hoping to avoid one of the stresses ,i did hear of a new female vet so ill make a vist to her office so she will relax ,and maybe she can tell, but one would think she should show more than her ribs filling out and teets .is it common for them not to show alot or am i right to question at  44 days in? welli guess the vet will be the answer , so off to the vet tomorrow . thanks guys for not making me feel stupid hope all goes will with you dee sounds like your going to have your hands full.

Did the vet that did the AI do an egg test on female before he did the ai to see where she was in her heat? and did he say the sperm count was good in the male as he took the donor?

We recently had to scrubb a breeding of a female  with an AI as she just was so unruly, that she passed up her days, and had only a tiny % age of getting preg on the day we finally took them in, The vet , only one , that has an excellent rep with gsds  , is very honest and will only complete the AI if all  is just right....Still no guarantees,,,,but most of the time if both are checked against the odds...it is successful,

And a whole lot easier on both dogs...
