my dog is 8 months old he has an excellent character and hes fine with kids always sitting around them and allowing them to pet him but my problem is he cant stop bitting me and sometimes my family, the biting is playfull but sometimes leads to frustration,my young brother is terrified of him since the dog has bitten him on his hand. I know this is normal for a young dog but some limits have to be taken since he could bite o young kid and we may have some problems!

! i need some advice

My 3 month pup bites my ankles and whatever he can get his teeth on like an alligator. You should be thankful just shows that the dog has the spirit in him. However coming to the annoying part yes it can get a bit too much. You can give him correction. 7 month is ok for a little harder correction.

depends on the hardness of your dog how much correction he can take without harming his spirit and ruining his bite.

You also need to play more tug with him basically channelize his energies and focus

all the best

Focus the dog to toys.  You need to transfer that to a tug or something of the sort.  The dog is fulfilling himself on your body.  Always have a toy available.

Dogs need to learn bite inhibition, most dogs that is. Not sure about a dog that is being raised as a Sch contender. Maybe someone experienced in that can read this link and advice you. I'm not interested in training  my dogs for Sch, but am interested in teaching them bite inhibition and this method works well. He's 8 months old, so it's time he understands how to control the pressure he puts into a bite and that mouthing a human is never acceptable behavior. Then again, maybe Sch trainers overlook that behavior. If he's intended as only a pet, get to work now or he will notr learn that is it never acceptable to mouth a human. I would never put up with that from an 8 month old dog.

Don nailed it, change the focus to an acceptable toy he can bite.  Ours went through that and everytime they would "bite" we would substitute a toy.  Now the girls just "hold" my hand very softy.  It takes time and consistency, don't expect an overnight fix.  Our 4-weeks olds are all ankle biters right now, walk in and have 4 on each ankle......  They will start getting toys soon.

Or bitter apple on your hands a few times. My trainer would carry a small bottle and if the dog bit he would spray it in his mouth. But again for pets no sch.

You never use negative correction with a schutzhund candidate lilke apple bitter..or spray them with anything or slap or kick or shove away............ when they bite you...I wouldnt own a litter of pups that didnt  bit...infact I get angry at one of my litters ,and I will not breed that male anylonger ...he is going to a pet home,,,,and his pups are not biter...they play bite....and let go and show no interest in any biting...It frustrates me to the highest pine tree on my place....I want a biting pup and my body tells you and everyone else....I laugh,...if I every went to the ER, someone would investigate where I got all the scratches and bites on my body when I have pups.....I get a lot of phone calls,,,,what do we do...the baby is scared of the pup....

Don has the answer....when that pup is ready for any kind of call back that requires a bite, full grip , and he all of a sudden looks at your and remembers   oh she sprayed me with amonia or she has bitters on her , or she slapped me when I bit  or she kicked me when I bit.....well guess what ,,,,,,,you will have problems.....you use the prey and substitute the tugs , a dish towel  and the best    a gummy sack  cut into half and rolled up , duck tape in three places   and if you dont like that ....order  some work tugs or some jute Bite developers   the are only 69.95 and they also have balls on ropes that they guarantee the rope wont come out of the balll.....do not waste your money on the balls at wal mart and Pets mart.....those are for couch potatoes.....www.elitek9.com
