So I am in the market for an e-collar. I have some experience with Tri-Tronics but have seen people using Dogtra lately. I am looking at the Dogtra 3500 or the Tri-tronics 500 two dog units.
I have one dog that is high drive, high pain tolerance, knucklehead. The other is high drive, mid-level pain tolerance, but is sensitive in that she takes things a little personal and gets butt hurt sometimes.
I was all ready to buy the Tri-tronics until I started lookig at the operation of the 2 dog units. The Dogtra has it set up so that you have a "hot" button for both dogs at all times. The Tri-tronics you have to use a toggle switch bewtween dogs. In addition, the Dogtra has a toggle that switches between normal and "mild" settings. The Tri-tronics you would have to use 2 hands to switch the intensity level. (I know they have a high, medium, and low setting, but i don't think these dogs will be operating at the same level) It seems as though the Dogtra would be easier to operate when working both dogs at the same time.
So what do ya'll think. What is your preference and why?
PS If you are anti e-collar please keep that to yourself. I am looking for opinions and expereince. I don't want this to turn into a "e-collars are cruel" or "e-collar vs leash correction" thread.
Thank you.

I have used both the Tri-Tronics and Dogtra...I used to use the Tri-Tronics...and haven't for years now...not since switching to Dogtra...I have now used the Dogtra for a number of years and am more then satisfied...They are stonger...smaller in size...and have more features then their cousins...I personally reccomend them to people in Schutzhund and Police Work...If I can be of any help please feel free to contact me...

I'm curious about the answers too.
We have the Innotek 2-dog systems, Since we aren't working from the distances the hunting dogs do the range is fine. The remotes are small enough to stick in a pocket or have lanyards to wear around your neck. The settings are easy to change from one dog to the other. Each dog can have it's own power level setting and there is a tone as well.
I did see one system, I forget which one, that was for hunting dogs. One remote for four collars, color coded switch to match color coded collars. I like the way that one looked. I could not jusify that much $$$$$$$ when ours are working fine. But if and when it's time for a replacement......

I own a Dogtra and two different Tri-tronics collars. One is an old style LR100 and my latest is the new Generation 3. I would not own a Dogtra again. I liked the Dogtra at first because it was lightweight and the transmitter was small and easy to hold. However, it soon became unreliable. One thing anyone needs in an e-collar is reliability. When I hit that button, I need it at that precise moment to send the correct messsage to my dog. The Dogtra often failed. The Tri-tronics never let me down. I will stick with Tri-tronics.

I just went back to the tri-tronics. I and some other club members have had unreliable results with the dogtras. I just became a dealer of tri-tronics if you want shoot me an email. i might be able to make it worth your time. tpd2654@yahoo.com

Stimulation is what got me sticking to Tri-Tronics. The stimulation is much smoother on the Tri-Tronics as opposed to the Dogtra. The best way to describe the Dogtra is that it is punchy and some of the older models are have a slight delay. Another feature that you have to consider is the dial as opposed to click setting. Consistency is what we are talking about when it comes to training, is it not? I own both but rarely eve use the Dogtra, even with the digital read setting. One collar that is very good and can be programmed several ways that is inexpensive and easy to use is the Sportdog 400 or 400S, S for stubborn, which is just a bit hotter. At the price you can buy 2 collars with 2 separate remotes. For what I do, I like to train one dog at a time so I really don't need a 2 dog collar working at the same time. That feature is good for multiple hunting dogs.
