Can you tell by hip score xrays whether it is a bitch or a dog in the xray?

Would you consider using a male with a hip score of 36:3 considering its environmental on one side????

Just curious as to what people think

Each xray must show registration no. and id of dog in pic....every dog , bitch or male, has to have a totoo, or a chip,

must be identifiable..by the vet in the xray...as well as the org. submitting the result of the ofa or hip certification;

If there us a question, ask person who gave you the x-ray for a clearer x=ray and proof of the dog in question...lots of misrepresentations in the world of DOG....be sure...

Have to see pedigree to make that kind of assertions.

You can usually see the shadow of the penis/testicles in the xray of a male, not familiar with that kind of hip scoring?  What system is it?  How do you know for a fact the problem is environmental?

The dog's penis has a bone in it, the baculum, which will show up clearly on an x-ray.

Thanks for your comments.

I was under the impression you could tell but you have confirmed it Thanks.

VBK9- considering the high score is on one side only would suggest it environmental and

not hereditary.

Snapdragon: "considering the high score is on one side only would suggest it environmental and not hereditary. "

Key word there is SUGGESTIVE,  there is no way to prove it!!! Why take the chance???

My female has Moderate HD on one side and is good on the other (OFA)... she was spayed.  She was raised lean, did not have any major accidents (never been hit by a car or fall down the steps etc.), was crated as a pup when not supervised, no excessive running or jumping etc.   IMO hers is not environmental.

HD is NOT that black and white!  There's no way I would breed him.

Melanie

Is this a PennHip xray?  Are you talking about the distraction index?  The median for GSDs for PennHip is .4
