I spent $20 this last weekend. I usually shop for 2 weeks of RAW and baggie it up to freeze. I over bought and have enough for probably 3 weeks this time. 10lbs chicken 1/4's at Walmart $4 2 bags. 10lbs ground beef $10. About $1 for a big container of generic yogurt, bought 2. I switch from yogurt to cottage cheese sometimes for something different. I had some frozen liver left over from my last shopping trip and more chicken too. I'm throwing RAW to my other dogs just to get rid of it before it goes bad.
I did spend more to make Satin balls which requires some special stuff but that isn't necessary. I was just playing around.
I also ask the guys in the meat dept for anything they are going to throw out. Last time I shopped, I got 20lbs of tripe for $11 I think. Pork necks are very cheap, gizzards, liver, heart, it's all $1-2 and you just a little bit of that a day mixed in with the main meat and bone. I was a bit nervous at first thinking I was going to jip my dog somehow, now it's fun making up his meals every other weekend. I change it up depending on what I find the cheapest, gives him variety and comes out cheaper than a bag of premium dog food.
Do a message board search for websites and other peoples ideas on RAW.

I highly recommend starting your research at Rawdogranch.com That site has the most helpful information as well as a spreadsheet that assists you in determining the correct ratio of muscle meat to bone to offal per your dog's individual needs.

Another good source is Dr Ian Billinghurst.. he has written a series of books.. Give a dog a Bone etc..... and has a website.. BARFworld, maybe?? a search should bring up something
You need to do some research and be prepared.. you want to balance things out over time but it is important to feed the right types of things..

I can tell you how I make my own dog food.
Chicken, all meat, organs (except intestines/bladder/stomach) cut into chunks.
Cattle, all meat, organs (except intestines/bladder/stomach) cut into chunks. The knuckles I keep too, I put them in the smoke house.
All the above is mixed together with veggie broth and dehydrated till solid. (about 16 hours) 15 chickens and a side of beef lasts about 4 months for my 2 dogs. This is what I feed in a bowl that never runs dry. Usually I fill the bowl 3-4 times a day, I like to keep bowls full on account of activities. All the bones are ground up and mixed with bacon drippings till good and paste. The paste we put into an old homeade calking gun, make strips about 6 inches, then put in the smoker. Of all the things I've used to make homeade bones, I've found this is the best. They have the texture of a dentabone.
The chicken and cattle after finished, I store in large plastic trash cans with lids. Good Luck.
