Personal post to the world. My dog saved my life. He incestantly and repeatedly indicated my cancer. My dog came home to save my life. Well, take it for what it is worth. Never underestimate what your "pet" is telling you.

How did he do that, Maren? As a nurse, this is something that interests me very, very much!

Sunsilver, he simply was a pain in the ass. And I thought he learned something in Germany. LOL. Well to put it in a nut shell, when his insistance became more adament and regular, he in frustration would simply lay his muzzle on the spot. When I felt the tumor, no one had to tell me it was cancer. I just knew. After the tumor was removed, Galaxy stopped indicating. In a separate scenario as a young dog, he showed similar bahavior to my father. My father was later diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is a dog that indicates more than one cancer type. It scares me sometimes when he shubs someone in the belly. I always feel like telling them, have you recently been to to a full check-up. It is his paticular thingy. . .

might have to come visit you for a scan then!

LOL! Reminds me of the old joke about the 'lab' test and the 'cat' scan!!
Wow, that's incredible, Sunshine!
May you and he both have a long, happy life together!

You can take it for what it is worth. I am throwing this out, and it is very personal. Galaxy plainly saved my life. I have a very aggressive and fast growing cancer and without him, I would not be alive as we speak. It is not anything that would have come up in an annual. I am just extremely lucky. I attribute my fortune to my dog on one part and of course science on the other. But the dog was the lifesaver. Take it for what it is worth. He and I are OK in pink. LOL.

Dogs are very sensitive to the odors that we give off. I have read of dogs indicating tumors before, in fact there were several studies done, I actually think they were using poodles, I haven't heard too much about it lately. My Kali saved me from dying from hypoglycemia...when I was first put on Amaryl I became very sleepy, face numb, collapsed; Kali barked & pulled on my sleeve, would not leave me alone until I got up and went to the kitchen & checked my sugar...if she had not pestered me until I got up, I am sure I would have died or suffered brain damage...my doctor, after I called him, basically said 'be more careful about how you eat'---DUH! I'm an LPN,(CCLPN,ACLS,)BCLS,CHPLN....I know how to eat & moniter my sugars.....& so it happened again! Kali to the rescue once more! After that I refused to take it any more, and I have a new doc.....sunshine, I hope you are well, and take care of yourself and your wonderful furry friend. jackie osborne lpn, chpln (past certifications)

I think a lot more research needs to be done in this area. I think it would save thousands of lives, and probably be quite cost-effective as well. I read of a company that uses dogs to detect mould inside buildings. If the mould is bad enough, the handler can smell it, but quite often, the dog detects mould in places where humans would never spot it, or even think to look.

Also, two different doctors missed my husband's cancer. By the time they finally found it, he'd been having problems for nearly 3 years. Of course, by then it was far too late and it had spread to his bones and lymph nodes.
I'm sure a dog would have detected it LONG before then. It was in his bladder, so they could have picked up the scent from his urine.

Kalibeck, You are right, Standard Poodles was the "norm" at least in the study, But I saw where they were using Jack Russel's, Labs, GSD's, Golden Ret. and Toy Poodles as well. It was a big study they would hide human tissue that contained "Normal" tissue, Tissue that was Tumorous, and Tissue that was Cancerous, It was quite interesting to watch that program.
sunshine, Best wishes to you and hope you stay Healthy !!! That's so cool your dog did that for you, even better that you recognized it !
