The ad for Sport/Working pups from Okie Amazon....

The parents don't have titles, or hip ratings. They claim to have prelim's at least. They're said to be working on getting titles though. pfft!

On the dam's side you have to go back 4 generations on her to even find a dog that's titled (2 showline) and they are also the only ones that show any hip ratings. Sires side you have to go back 2 generations for the same.

Why does everyone think they have to be a breeder?

Capitalism, baby.  Anybody has the right to advertise any dog for any price.  Hopefully people will vote with their wallet and demand higher quality. 

I would personally like to see SchH continue to expand, and continue to educate people.  Most folks in my area have never seen a quality GSD, and when they see my black sable boy they ask what he's mixed with.  Ha!  My personal vision is to raise my dog to be a good canine citizen as well as a good sport dog.  We could use more ambassadors for the breed and the sport in my neck of the woods.

I know that money can be a motivator, but I think SchHBabe was more on the right track with ignorance.  I think that alot of these people think that they have a truly great dog. A dog whose bloodlines would be lost if not bred.  A dog who everyone should have.

I think you're sniffing down the right track.  Some folks couldn't even recognize a quality GSD if they saw one.  I remember myself the first time stepping onto a SchH club field and seeing a sable GSD for the first time.  I thought it was a wolf cross because I had never seen any GSD that wasn't B&T.  Oy!

You're right about that. Most would not know a good GSD if it bit them on the a@#. 

I was at a park with a decent trail and walking my nice black and red girl when I was asked if she was a German Shepherd Mix.  Then, the lady told me if I wanted "to see some real "purty" German Shepherds to walk the trail a ways and look at them their dogs."

I couldn't believe it when I came up on a very washed out greyish/yellow looking dog with perky ears and a very looong whitish/yellowish german shepherd.

And who's responsibility is it to educate these people.  The ones that come here to get information get KILLED,  and the ones that truly try to educate get KILLED too... 

PSP not so very long ago I would have been one of them people,  even though I've had GSD's since a very young girl,  I knew none of this stuff,  This has all been SELF education when it comes to SchH, Shows, Showline Vs. Workingline, and all that other Jazz... 

I think the thread started by FlipFinish has alot of validity in it, and comes to play in the questions being asked here.  JMO don't kill me for it.
