This is my 1 1/2 year old who had her routine vaccines and for the first time had a reaction. I have already given her meds, I just thought I would share her poor, sad, puffy little face with you all. Poor little thing.

OMG, what was included in the vaccine? Is there a chance of narrowing down to exactly which part of the vaccine caused this? Is this the same brand your vets normally go with? I would start pressing some buttons to get answers.

it's the same routine vaccines they always get. This is just what a vaccine reaction looks like. No need to press any buttons to get answers. It's just one of those things. It happens. No need for alarm.

OMG is right!!.. I hope you have reported to your vet that this happened.. this woulod be one of those dogs who would get a very limited vaccine regimen... Rabies every 3 years and maybe in 3 -5 years I might think about a parvo distemper.. have you read Dr Dodds writings???

I'd really study these if I were you...... just curious .. how long after her vaccinations were given did this start happening??
by DKiah on 23 July 2007 - 20:07
Sorry this is NOT routine.. who told you it happens all the time? It happens but not all the time and it indicates that somethign is wrong ..... in all the time I worked for vets, I maybe saw it twice.. 2 different vet hospitals and 2 different parts of the country ..and probably a span of 5 -6 years!!

Hence my call of alarm! This should not be dismissed...I would ask for vaccine manufactor, and a list of EVERY thing that vaccine covers...

Just a thought for everyone:
Dogs just like people can have autoimmune system problems and will react differently to vaccines. It will many times show itself as allergic reactions.
I was treated for 27 years for hive outbreaks resulting in alarming swelling and later found that it was caused by an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's- my immune system overloaded at some point and started showing reactions like this when I would get my military immunizations. An immunization is a diluted strain of whatever they are vaccinating against and a malfunctioning immune system will not react the same as a healthy time, many times resulting in hives, allergies, flu like symtoms and like me I would always get the flu they were vaccinating me for, hence they stopped immunizing me. I regulate my body temp to monitor reactions to things. Now when I have a fever my temp actually drops very low.

I didn't say the reaction was routine. I said the vaccine was routine-just a yearly booster. I didn't say it happens all the time. I am not dismissing it but it certainly is not life threatening, I have treated it and the vet was made aware. Vaccine reactions are not common but they CAN happen. If people knew all the things that CAN happen when giving their children and pets all the shots that are required they would probably not do it . I have read and understand the package insert that comes with the vaccine.
DKiah to answer your question ,the reaction happened about an hour or so after the vaccine was given.
