I would like to know from all the professional breeders on here, If you send a puppy out of state to new owner, and the new owner of the puppy has that puppy for 2 months and decides they do not like the puppy, and want to send the puppy back, what would you do? Also would you send the owner their money back first and then get the puppy? or would you wait until the puppy came back and then send the money back? Would like everyone's comments on this please!!

Kelly,
Is this YOUR puppy? Or a puppy that you bred?
It depends on what the contract states. If there is no contract then it is he breeders call on how/if things happen. I doubt very many breeders would take a puppy back just because they decide they don't like it. Rather, most would try to help with whatever the problem is.
You really need to elaborate more on the situation, as many different circumstances can change how things are handled.
Sincerely,
Debby

The puppy is out of our breeding. When I bred my female I did not know down the line that I would have a medical situation that would effect myself. I was not able to socialize the pups the way I normally do. This pup and the others are of sound mind just not use to, yelling and slamming things. When we took this pup to the airport on a Saturday which if anyone knows that is a very busy day on the weekend. This puppy laid down with tons of people all around us, and went up to people holding her head high wagging her tail and etc. Which I thought was excellent for a puppy that I was not able to take all over the place with me. Anyway the first 2-3 weeks I've heard nothing but good from this new owner, and then they started saying she is scared of everyone and everything which she was not when she left here. The new owner states that she hardly has any hair now and so on and so on. The new owner just emailed us and said they will not return her until they get their money back and her AKC papers to transfer the puppy in their name, and then they will send her back. There was a hold up on sending the AKC papers to them. So now they want her papers and their money and then they will send her back. I told them it doesn't work that way, We get the puppy back and then you get your money. They did sign a contract, and we do have a copy of it. All we want is our puppy back, and they won't do this until they get the said above. I told them what makes us think that once you get her paper work and your money we would get her back? They have not returned our email as of yet. How would any of you handle this situation?

If you have agreed to take the puppy back and then return their money I would stick with that. No way would I send papers, transfers, and money then wait for the puppy to be returned.

Are they for real? Stick to your guns. Ask more questions and demand answers before you take action. Give them a refund and the papers? They must be smoking something. Your the business not them, you make the calls, it's your reputation on the line.

Kelly,
Some puppies go through "fear periods" and most if handled properly, are temporary! This puppy needs to be taken to a class for puppies and the owners need to be taught how to handle the fears. It's as simple as that! Maybe ask this board for a good class in their area? Judging by how the puppy acted at the airport, it can only be a "fear stage" or abuse.
Up to you though as you have already told them you would take it back.

BIG red flag here. If they intend to send her back why do they need the papers? Those registration papers would not leave my hands for any reason at this point.

I have agreed to take the puppy back, but in our contract it also has a section about abuse which we feel very strongly that our pup is/has been going through. Also on our contract it states that they would only receive 25% back of the purchase price, which they want a full refund!! We don't want the puppy to have anymore harm done to her, we just want our puppy back, but they want what I have stated above, and that is just crazy. Is there anything that we can do to get our puppy out of this situation without further damage? I am very pleased that everyone else does agree with us not sending the money back until we get the puppy back. They have stated that they are going to do this the way we did for them to get our puppy. (Puppy paid in full, and then puppy is delivered)and they stated that they are not going to return her until the papers and money are in their hands! What can we do(legally or otherwise) to get our puppy back? Please any help would be appreciated and thank you for all the good comments!!!!!

Even if the pup is clear across the country I would drive/fly there and pick her up pay in person and get my pup back. If you suspect abuse I'd want her out of there asap. If you know of anyone in their area you could also use someone as a mediator and send them the $$ and have them pick up the pup and exchange the $$ in person. The most important thing is getting that pup out of a bad situation then socializing her so she isn't permanently affected. There is no reason for them to have the papers if the pup is returning to you, I don't understand their reasoning.
Good luck!!
