My 5 year old male GSD has a callus on one elbow. Recently, I noticed it was getting bigger and a little raw, and today I caught him licking it. What can I do to help it get better, short of putting one of those blasted lampshades on his head?

He has a dog bed, and when in the house, is usually resting on that or a rug. When outdoors, he lies on the lawn, or on the wooden porch, looking through the patio door with sad eyes, hoping I'll let him in.

My female has callus's too. Last year one of hers got kinda weepy and raw. Not sure if you search Callus on this board you might get all the recommendations, one was a tube sock so they can't lick and a little cush. I found what worked the best for her was a product called New Skin. Its a liquid bandaid. I put it on her 2-3 times a day. It went away quick. The callus is still there but the rawness went away. She has/had similar conditions for laying around as your dog, not sure what caused it to do that then not return...
