Posted in my Cardigan friend's (Jennifer Roberson) News Group:
LASSIE WINS!!
AB1634, the mandatory spay/neuter bill in California, has been pulled.
Levine blames all the "rhetoric" of his opponents and their
unwillingness to even admit there's a problem, let alone offer a
solution.
Riiiiiiiiiiight.
Said he didn't have the votes.
Hallelujah!
We all know he will come back with another attempt, probably next
year, but the bill in =this= form will not be brought to a vote. It's
dead.
This is a HUGE victory for opponents because it will inform other
communities and local/state governments that they'd better think long
and hard about how bills of this nature should be written. I
personally advocate spaying/neutering of all dogs not in breeding
programs of responsible breeders (that need not be limited to "show
dogs," mind you, but includes SAR, therapy, etc.), but making it a
=crime= not to do so, and forcing government regulation down throats,
is ludicrous. There are very good reasons not so do early
sterilization, as it affects various aspects of a dog's longevity.
In short, a more realistic and health-guided approach is needed, not
something driven by AR fanatics who have a very different agenda.
The Lassie reference is because Rud Weatherwax, Lassie's trainer, the current Lassie, and Jon Prevost (Timmie from the T.V. show) were recruited to spearhead the opposition in a presentation to the California legislature!
Let's hear it for Lassie!!

Oops, that's Bob (Bud) Weatherwax, son of the late Rudd, who trained Lassie for the 50's TV show and many of the Lassie movies!
You can tell what decade I grew up in....

Bob Barker looses. Yea! He is so far out of reality with this bill, it's mindblowing.

Kudos to the CA dog owners for their united effort in killing this horrible bill. There truly is strength in numbers. Levin may as well buy himself a dump truck now. His political career is heading down the proverbial chute. Stupid is as stupid does.

Told ya!

Here's a link to a video of Levine's rhetorical interview this AM regarding why he withdrew AB 1634. I'd love to know what he did with the dog he had while attending college after he decided he didn't really have the time for a pet. Wouldn't it be just hilarious if he placed it in a shelter?
Enjoy.........

Keep the party short; this is only a temporary set back. They will come in stronger next time.
