I have seen a couple of references to bloodline 13A, for this newbie what does that mean?
Thanks!

Hi Barb -
East German dogs in the DDR were classified by their sire lines under the SDG registry (Sektion Dienst- und Gerbrauchshund), and had numbers assigned to their specific bloodlines -
Line 13 specifically includes dogs descending down the sire line from Klodo v Boxberg, including such sires as Rolf aus den Urmenkeller, Rigo vd Schiebockmuhle, Fred v Falkenbruch, and their sons and so on... more recent dogs of note from line 13A include Don and Derrick v Haus Iris, and their descendants in turn. It is known that there are some longcoat genes within line 13, which is one of the reasons some people advertise "no line 13" , but they were also known to be good working dogs. Hope this helps.

Altostland, can you list the other lines and what dogs are included and what each line is known for? I know it may be a lot but it is very interesting. I have taken a keen interest in the East German dog. Also which line is known for producing the best conformation?

Actually altostland is partially right. The bloodline 13a is a good working line along with the rest of the ddr lines. The problems come from compounding (line breeding) heavily on the line or certain dogs. Long coats are more then just some other faults include tooth errors, Cryptorchid. imperfect ears, excessive females some cases hip and elbows. This is seen today for the simple reason many breeders breed similar gene pools because that is all the have or simply just do not know better.
I would say altostland answer is based on what they have to breed. most of there dogs are, have or bred to the line 13A. The DDR-DSH person who wrote on this data base is the person with the real knowledge of all the bloodlines. These people giving incorrect or incomplete answers more then likely learned for took the information from a ddr dvd. And the sell dogs.

Where is this numbered bloodline list? Is it published somewhere on the web? I would be curious to learn about this myself.

No, not on the internet to my knowledge but it is all written down in some the DDR Körbuchen. You might find about one line or the oher on the web but not all together. And some of the other books have the bloodline charts attached.
