EMTTGT06

Hello, I guess i should say i'm not exactly new to the GS breed, but my wife and i would like to start up i guess you'd say a small family kennel.  I was raised around White's my entire childhood, don't get me started on them, but they were in great demand in this area during the mid 80's.  We have a 11 mth blk/tn male (Thomas' Chosen Duke) that is a superb looking dog, however his pedigree pretty much sucks.  You can look over it and the only standout is Stormfronts Brawnson who is his great grandfather (oh boy!)  My wife insists on getting a Sable bitch, which is fine with me.  I guess i'm asking for help.  I'm not willing to spend $5,000 for a dog, nor do i want to sell my pups for an unbelievable amount, but i want what i consider darn good dogs.  Does anyone sell or know of someone that sells good quality dogs for a reasonable price say $1,000 to $2,000 dollars or cheaper  .  I guess any advice at all that any of you have would be greatly apprecitated.

Thank you,

Tyler

If you are looking for a sable I would guess looking for working lines?   Letting people know which type would help you narrow down your search.

No need to be sorry, just more info helps.    Based on a couple current threads maybe you could let people know more about your set up and how/where the dogs are kept.  Fenced yard?  Kennels?  Crates?  In the house?  Companions only or also working?   Always better to give too much info for something like this then not enough.

You're more likely to get a puppy for around the $1,000-$1,500 range but an adult titled bitch with a decent pedigree???  Not gonna happen.  There's a lot of people on here that are willing to help us newbies but I gotta tell ya, this thread is gonna get you linched. lol  You state your males pedigree sucks- you should stop right there; no point in considering a breeding cause you're basically saying he has nothing to offer.  Therefor he shouldn't be bred.  Just enjoy him, love him and have fun with him.  He's too young to have been titled and you did not make mention of having him in any type of shutzhund training, therefor we don't even know if despite his crappy pedigree if he can even do the work(and I don't know if it's crappy since I did not see it, just going by what you said).  Make sense??  Why breed him? Cause he's nice looking?  There's a lot of nice looking dogs, might have crappy pedigrees, might only be couch potatoes and I'm not saying no one should own them, love them, have fun with them, I'm just saying no one should breed them.  The next thing that concerns me is you stated you don't want to spend $5,000 for a dog and you don't want to charge a lot for your puppies; well the only thing I can say is a pup is only worth as much as what his parents are AND what one is willing to pay.  Now if you're willing to get a puppy, train it and title it yourself then yes you can save yourself the money and get what you're looking for in your price range with a nice pedigree.  In the end it will probably have cost you the just as much if not more when you add in your time and whoever you train with. If you're not willing to do that and you aren't interested in titling the dog yourself then you will pay for the training a titled dog already has had by someone else.  Either pay upfront and get the finished product or pay over time and do the work yourself....Either way you're gonna pay for a good dog; no one is gonna sell you gold at silver prices.    If breeding is not something you can be talked out of then you may want to consider buying a nice titled bitch and using a nice stud dog rather than your male.  I'm sure there's a lot of breeders on here that may have something to suit you at a reasonable cost.

Harry,

I think he's looking for a female for breeding (family kennel?). Ghirra cannot be used for breeding. I specifically told you that. Her hips are not good enough. Maybe you're speaking of another female, but if it's Ghirra that is a no-go.

This entire post upset me, because it sounds like someone only interested in breeding for "what's in demand" to make some money, and nothing else. Breeding dogs for any other reason than to improve the breed and hold to the breed standard is irresponsible. We have enough dogs being bred that should never be bred, and then all the puppies that follow.

Nate,

I just checked out your website... you have a very nice looking male, Stuka! Is he large or medium sized? When I viewed his videos (the protection ones)... my bitch, Zambi went nuts! :D

By the way.. I AGREE WITH YOU!

Wow

Sorry to offend some of you, but i won't argue your points.  No i don't know every thing under the sun, I've read and studied until i'm blue in the face.  I'm not trying to hurt the breed or run it down.  My wife hears me complaining all the time about local GSD's being sold.  She bought my male for Xmas for me, We spent 5 months searching before i found one that i thought was sufficient.  Some pups i looked at had much better pedigree than Duke, however i was not impressed with the parents on site or the pups.  I made what i felt was the best choice, perhaps not.  I'm not doing this to make a quick buck, i'm doing this because i trully want to sell pups that are of good quality instead of the crap being raised around me.  Once again, sorry to have upset some of you, no hard feelings here.
