Has anyone had problems breeding bitches with recessed vulvas? My vet says that the vulva will usually go to normal with a bitches first heat. I sure would like to hear from someone who has raised and bred a bitch with this problem. Thanks to all who respond. Al

What exactly is a recessed vulva? I was wondering because my female when she came on her first heat at 7 mos old her vulva didn't swell like I thought it would. It did get a little large than normal but it didn't get like my other female's but now its back to normal size. She hasn't come on her second heat yet but I wonder if it will swell like it should.

That is a good question because I have a three year old female that has not had a full vulva in her last two heat cycles. She comes in heat and doesn't even seem to flag anymore. My studs are interested in her but she just doesn't swell anymore. I would be interested too if anyone has had this problem.

My bitch was like that her first heat. My vet said she would grow out of it and she did when her second heat came she was fine. I don't know that would apply to all females...but mine finally came out.

Most inverted vulvas "straigthen out" after the first or second season. The ones that don't may need to be surgically corrected.
