I was wondering when should I introduce my dog to the sleeve, what is the best way to go about it. He has done plenty of tug work. He is eight months old now. Here is a link to his pedigree beacuase I think maturity has alot to do with it, and some lines mature faster that others.

I've seen an 8 week old pup go for the sleeve first time out. My bozohead on the other hand is 11 months and shows no interest in it. I say try it out and see. I'm not familiar with your lines so can't give you any advise on that. Your dog is GORGEOUS btw.

It really depends on the dog and who's working the dog. If your dog has done tug work and is confident doing it, there is no reason he should not be able to progress to a sleeve. Going from tug to puppy/ young dog sleeve is really no big deal. I have one that went straight from a bite pillow to an intermediate sleeve, no problem. Good dog + good foundation= progression.

Recommendations on puppy sleeves? type? supplier?

those bite pillows really are awesome for the transition. virtually no problems in presentation, light weight, easy for the dog to carry without tripping. inexpensive. we have a frabo and love it. even use it for older dogs since it is easy to present, no jambing, and good for targeting.

KellyJ,
Are you training with a club or doing this on your own? If you an experienced helper to work with Car, you could get a better assessment of his maturity level. I could offer up yet another opinion, but it's not worth much without knowing more about the dog.
Do you have a club?
