I have one female that I just love out of my Brijett/Rex litter.  I have been debating on whether or not to really keep her.  Her drive is really nice, but never seems to want to leave my side, and doesn't like the other dogs to come around me.  She is socialized ALOT and goes everywhere with me.  She's fine when we are out in public, and another dog approaches, it's only when she's on her own property.  Anyway, yesterday she made up my mind for me.....

I was out walking around the yard, picking up sticks and such from the storms we recently had, before getting ready to mow the grass.  Of course Phoebe was right by my side the whole time.  Actually getting under foot at times and aggrivating me.  We were out by the back fence line when she suddenly stopped and started barking like crazy.  I look around to see if perhaps someone was approaching...Nothing.  Then I thought perhaps she saw a rabbit (we have tons of them)...Nothing.  I took a few more steps, and she ran in front of me, almost knocking me down...it was then that I saw the grass move.  She immediatly charged in and started "tearing" at the ground.  The whole time, I am trying to grab her to pull her away from whatever it was.  After a few seconds (which seemed like a lifetime), she returns to me with a dead SNAKE!!!  THANK GOD, it was not poisonious!  (she and snake went immediately to vet)  She's a little swollen today, and uncomfortable from the 2 bites she received, but vet says she will be fine! :)

I was so proud of this little girl, as she is not even 9 months of age yet!  Needless to say....she's staying! LOL

Sounds like you've got a really smart and protective girl there.

I love those kind of stories! She may well be your once or twice dog of a life time! Better keep her!

But can she bake a cherry pie? :)  That's a cool story. Trigger stole a blueberry muffin off my desk last night. With all the recalls lately, I think he was trying to protect me from eating  bad food :)  I agree with the others. Your girl sounds like a keeper.

I have something to add and ask.

Phoebe was the "runt" of the litter.  She received special attention since day 2 when we noticed that she wasn't "acting right".  We took her to the vet who suggest that with a litter of 11, we might want to try and suppliment her a bit.  And we did....at first every hour, then 2 hrs etc,. until they were on solid food.  But even then, she was the "baby" in my eyes, and she is the ONLY one of the 6 we have left, that is ALWAYS in the house.  (we alternate the other)  She sleeps in my room in her kennel beside my bed.

Because she was given such special treatment from such a young age...could that contribute to her being "glued" to me all the time?

The 2 of you have bonded together. I also believe like Trailrider, that there are dogs that just get under your skin and take possession of your soul, if you are lucky to have that once in a life time, treasure it. Once it leaves you, you spend the rest of your life looking for it again. I still ache for mine and it has been 10 years. I love all my dogs, but there is that one>>>>>I have one at home now, that I wonder how I am going to handle when he goes. He is smarter than I am and has gotten me out of some very sticky situations that I never saw coming. On the other side of it, he is also well trained and I have been able to prevent "accidents" with him. Even the thought of having to replace him makes my palms sweat.
