I HAVE READ ON THIS MESSAGEBOARD THAT DOGS FLOAT WHEN GAITING
IE ALL 4 PAWS OFF THE GROUND AT THE SAME TIME.
IS THIS SOMETHING THAT IS IN THE BREEDING OR CAN YOU TEACH YOUR DOG TO DO IT.
ALSO IS THERE ANY TRAINNING METHOD TO HELP YOUR DOG TO REACH OUT FURTHER WHEN GAITING

The "float" is that part of a fast-moving gait when all four (4) paws are off the ground at the same time. The ability to make a smooth gait and display this type of footwork is a characteristic of a correct GSD. All physical components of the body must be in correct proportions and work in harmony for this to occur and appear smooth. Of course this happens at a slightly different speed for each dog, so the handler must find this magic speed and maintain this speed with the dog while moving around the ring.
So my take on it is that it is 99% in the breeding, and 1% in the training. One needs to find that magic speed with a dog of correct proportions.
