I think i've got it pretty close, check out my picture of my boy, it took for ever to get him to stay like that. i'm just sorry that the pictures to dark to, doing this outside would have been a better idea.

Looks good. Head position is way high and camera angle could be slightly lower = even with the dog.
Ultimately, the best stack photo takes two to three people to accomplish. One holding the leash or collar. One off camera providing motivation for the dog to drive against the leash producing deep, natural driving stack. One taking the picture.
Nice looking dog btw.

Agree about the head angle. Also, because dark colours absorb light, you may need even MORE light to really show up such a dark-coloured dog. You may also have to adjust the exposure carefully so the camera meter isn't reading the reflection off the light-coloured background, which will cause the dog to be underexposed.
And yes, an outdoor shot probably would have turned out better. Even then, you might want to use flash for fill in (to highlight dark areas.)
Also when photographing an animal, it is very important to get a clear shot of the animal's eye, as 'eyes are the window to the soul'!
(Sorry if this is TMI...my late husband was a VERY avid photographer, and briefly tried making his living at it! Some of it rubbed off on me over the years...)

I'm still learning to stack my dog to where I think he looks good too. Totally new to it. I've been working on it, along with him letting me check his teeth out etc. with out him moving! This is his latest stack, but for some reason when I'm the only one out there and taking the picture, he THINKS he needs to look at me, LOL. But I still think it looks good even is he is a ham! I also agree that you need to bring the head down some, and his back legs look wide?

live4,
How did you insert a picture into your reply? I don't think I've seen that done before.
BTW, I like the idea of experimenting with different backgrounds. I think with a little more indirect lighting that picture would turn out very cool. Nothing wrong with something different.

If the photo exists on the web somewhere, right click on it then select properties.
Highlight and copy the Address (URL) line.
Then in the Post a reply box look below and find the little picture of the tree between the anchor and the brush. <-----This ;)
When you click on it, paste the URL you copied into the first box "Image URL", name it whatever you want, then click the Insert button.
All done.

Yee ha! I'm empowered now! Well, kind of... does the picture have to be on a web page? What if it's just a jpeg on my hard drive? Could I add that? I'm guessing not, but I thought I'd check.
