My six month GSD passed a worm this morning. It looked like a small and thin earthworm in a knot. The worm died almost as soon as it came out. My dog is on that liquid that you put on the back of his neck for a whole bunch of parasites. He is showing no signs of anything being wrong with him. He appears very healthy and eats very well. Is this just the liquid doing it's job?

This pup needs to be wormed! I could be wrong, but as far as I know, topicals are not effective against internal parasites. Check with your vet, and be sure to take in a stool sample.

I would worm this dog. Just as a precaution. It sounds like a large roundworm. Was it whiteish in color? Google Image search Round Worm and it'll show a picture, and you can compare.

Most de-worming meds, in liquid form, are 5ccs or 5ml per 10lbs of body weight.

Here's what I noticed in my puppies, that might've happened in yours. My puppies poop was normal, then I de-wormed them, and I noticed the large roundworms, so maybe, if you just applied the liquid, it's expelling the worms?

I recommend the following brands:

For Round and Hook worms, NEMEX-2

For Tape and Whip worms, the DE-WORM series

Sounds like a tapeworm or round worm to me! Need to probabaly treat monthly with a heartworm prevention that also gets intestinal parasites! Heartworm prevention, however, will not get tapes.

If you use Safeguard, it will get tapes, hooks, rounds and whips. It comes in granule form for dogs, rather expensive, or you can use the liquid for cattle or goats, at 1cc per 7 lbs of body weight. You must use this product 3 days in a row, however.

I now use Safeguard livestock suspension for all dogs. Used to use Nemex 2. Haven't seen a worm in years. I really like the fact that Safeguard gets pretty much everything, including coccidia and giardia, and at $130. for a whole liter, its very cost effective. I have a young male who tends to get giardia (probably from swimming in the pond). Afte two days of Safeguard his stools are normal and he feels fine.

I never heard that Safeguard would touch Giardia or Coccidia.. that would be tremendous!

PSP is correct ... External topicals to my knowledge (unless there is something new) Do not do anything for internal parasites.

The dog needs dewormed if your not comfortable doing it yourself seek advice or treatment from your vet, Internal parasitges can do alot of dammage to the dogs insides.

Just my opinion, but I have my dog's on Ivomec, because I had 1 that was on heart guard and ended up with heart worms, plus it takes care of all the worms except tape worms. I also use all natural stuff for ticks, mosquito's, etc. I don't mean to bud in on your thread, but I would like to know which one is best to use on puppies and adults, Ivomec? or Safe Guard?

My dog was said to be fee of worms for first stool sample. The safegaurd product that I have says that it takes care of round worm, heart worm, hookworm, ect... there were about nine items it will prevent. I have six more tubes to give him at the beginning of every month. I have never seen any worms in his stool before and applied the first tube a week ago. I checked again in his poop this afternoon and there was no parasites. I'll call the vet just in case. Any more suggestions?
