Just what the PETA extremists need to see, Alknezo. Maybe you don't have these problems in your country, but here these people are trying to shut down every dog sport saying it cruel to the dogs. They would love to see dogs getting injured while participating in a mansport.

This video was taken at the recent Belgian Shepherd World Championships.  8 dogs were injured, the ones shown on this video sustained career-ending injuries (broken sternum, 2 broken legs).  Horrible, due in part to very poor helperwork - and definately not the "norm" in this sport.  In 15 years of competing and spectating at all levels of Schh, including World level, I have never seen even one serious injury beyond foot stepped on or problems stemming from a previous injury.   This video shows something that should NEVER happen - serious injuries to the dogs.

Lucky for us in the US to have PETA et al always looking over our shoulders. I don' t know if they have expanded to Europe yet, but it won't surprise me to hear that has happened.  I'm sure that people like you, Molly, would never particpiate in any sport that could endanger your dogs. I know how you feel about them.

Blitzen, unsure what your talking about. PETA and the likes of them are twice as bad in Europe than here bud...

Everyone, while I do not care for the subject matter it perhaps does serve as a reminder to all of us that we must always view our dogs as our PARTNERS, not our pets, servants, companions, or sources of income. These partners deserve the best from us, and cause us to redefine our role as their masters.

I realize that even with the best people and techniques that accidents do happen, and the dog pays the price for our errors. I agree that the catching technique was not very good, and I do not understand why this was allowed to continue. But, I was not there so my judgement is very limited.

Hundguy, I agree 100%. As bad as we think we have it here in the U. S. of A. we have not endured the results of legislation caused by European animal rights activists. Curiousity got the best of me, so I decided to look at the video. While I am against censorship of virtually any kind, I do feel that the GSD world has nothing to gain by the presence of this, and similar videos on the web that show what happens when things go wrong.

That was pretty bad. I have jammed a dog or two in my day, it happens. Fortunatley (knocking on wood) I have never injured a dog. Inexusable for a world event.

The guy on the long sends was trying to take the dogs right, when they were going left. We only saw two dogs so the question is, can the helper not take dogs to the left, or was he not reading the incomming dogs correctly? Either way this is a world event. If something happens once, ok mistake. If the same thing happens twice, you have a problem. It is on the judge to pull the helper, shame on him.

I am the last one to bad mouth a decoy. If we don't have them, we don't have the sport. This was really bad though. Prowaffe's Aurturo was last years world champion. Could you imagine if that was your dog?  I talked with his owners last year about a couple of their breedings. Nice people, that's too bad.
