AZshep-I hope he brings some bacon with him-we could have BLT's while we chat?? I just figured one dumb ass comment deserved another. Now that we're past the childish shots can we stay on topic?

I hear the same thing everywhere I go. I want to breed. I want to breed. Well, in my book it's not enough to want-it's enough to be responsible because it's about other lives. No, I don't have a crystal ball about which posts he'll be drawn to. But, just not being the "idiots breeding GSDs"  like he said is really not enough of a qualification. It's just not enough. Breeders-real breeders-are willing to invest time in knowing the ins and outs. Frankly, it worries me to hear some one say -I'm not going to breed ASAP because my male is only 9mos. I'm going to wait until he's two.  And damn skippy you don't see a post condoning this breeding. Hurrah for that anyway. Caring about the breed and every pup is a great quality in an owner not the qualification for being a breeder.

How about giving him the email add of one of the great kennels. Let him send them a copy of his first post and see if they even bother to answer something like that at all. The posts in this thread may not have passed your stringent standards of what is permissable to say. But at least I have bothered to reply out of concern for the dogs. And everyone who has replied has done so out of concern for the dogs. And, by the way, the Bad Bolls, etc. did breed. As have thousands and thousands of people who started out like the OP and ended up in the same mindset. Think about the odds on that.

Not condenscending. Not prententious. Exactly what I said it was. Not mean but not nice. Maybe not "sensitive" but neither is the breeding he was proposing in the beginning. As a matter of fact I wasn't "in your face" with him until he decided people telling him the hard facts was because "Some of you though, good heavens, do you not want anyone to breed other than yourself!!!" This is not the classical response of someone who is willing to listen to the advice of the reputable breeders that bothered to reply.

Maybe this was just a case of putting the cart before the horse and wanting to be a breeder before knowing how to be a breeder. If so and he wants to learn first (in more time than 1yr 4mos, hopefully) then bully for him. If you can have an input with the person for the better then great. You did what you needed to do to sleep at night out of concern for the breed. So have I.
