My dogs are my family. In fact, my dogs come in front of my family as I do not have any small children depending on me and my dogs are just that, dependent on me. As for class, you gotta be kidding? Missing class for a sick family member is perfectly within reason. How many professors would hold that against you even if you missed a final? None of mine ever did. That's why they have "make up" days. MOst will be happy to go over whatever you missed during office hours, delighted for the company in their lonely little room. ;) Many will ask how the dog is later. Rarely one will say something ridiculous, like "its only a dog..." (!?!) in which case you just go to the department head and a few of their peers, or the dean of your college, and repeat their words and see if they aren't more "sensitive" next time you have a family emergency. Take the vet record and bill along for documentation. Are you sure you should really have a dog?

Thank God she does not have a child. Too bad she has a dog, any dog.

UH, I believe people DID say that and it obviously wasn't sufficient because you decided to get a good nights sleep and go to school instead. Which kind of shoots down your whole point.

If you have a breeder you are learning from maybe you should run this scenario by them. If they say you did the right thing, you should find some one else to learn from.  While you are at it, you might ask if you might be jumping the gun just a little bit in looking for a stud to breed this poor puppy to. 

You may be the only person to actually make any money at breeding since you don't want to spend the money to ensure your dog has quality food or to take it to the vet.  And why is it, that your other dogs are with dear old mom and dad but you got a new one to be with you? Seems like a real throw away dynamic to me.

Another grim reminder of why I no longer breed dogs.
