Thanks for all the advice, there are a few of you that I might contact in the future for advice. Some of you though, good heavens, do you not want anyone to breed other than yourself!!! I can take advice and pokes as good as anyone, but some of you it seems are not willing to help at all. My wife and i love GSD's and believe it or not do truly care about the breed and each and every dog, I was asking for advice...got the point i need to spend more money, don't shoot me for it. My male is being trained and hopefully i can get him titled. As for money, none of you have a clue how much money i make and it's none of your business! There are some complete idiots out there raising GSD's, My wife and I are not idiots, we just need some advice and guidance, thanks to some of you, I have realized some things and will make the choices that i should. NO MORE POSTS NEEDED!

EMIT, I'm really very sorry for the way you have been treated. I thought your original post was pretty innocent, just asking for some advice. I'll probably get thrashed for even saying this, but oh well. Won't be the first time. Best of luck with Duke.

I think the point is no one should breed if they don't have the qualifications. It's the pups that will pay the price. Funny things is, you're the one saying your neighbors shouldn't be...maybe because you see they aren't doing right by the breed?
I don't think anyone gives a rat's ass what you make. The point is you want a cheap dog to breed to your crap dog and are offended that responsible breeders don't want to facilitate it by enabling you. No one said you were an idiot. And you did get both advice and guidance. Just not what you wanted to hear. So now your going to pout because we didn't all jump in and say go for it. Please.
And if the only point you got from all of this is: I need to spend more money you are absolutely obtuse.
Good grief.

emttgto6 i think every one is trying to say is there is a lot of bad breeders. it is not very hard to be taken when buying a dog or puppy. things you should consider when you purchase a dog for breeding is are they healthy is there a hip x ray done .are there bad genitics or health problimbs to pass down the line you are plainig to breed.is there structure good.is this line good to produce what you think would better the breed or are you some one in it for the dollar. dont get me wrong its nice to make a little money back since there is so much time involved.in training and vet bills for check ups food exedra!! most people cant afford a twenty thousand dog or a two thousand dollar dog. but if you buy a pupppy from a respictable breeder and you put the time into him to train him .then you should be able to breed if you think he or she would be a contrabution to the breed and there are no health or hip issues!! if you buy a puppy from a tittled dog with good history of tittled dogs.which is called a pedigree it will show the tittled dogs in his history.it will also show there hip ratings. this is a plus if you plan on using them for work not just a pet home. puppys that you breed if you are not aware of . have diffrent personalitys. half the litter maybe working dogs half may be pet homes. if you place the wrong dog in the wrong home well then this is were shelters come in to play.most puppys get older and there working dogs in a pet home well he will destroy a lot of things and maybe even hurt some one. there is a lot to consider when you say i want to be a breeder. i think people who want to breed should work at the shelters with these dogs and see what goes on. i also think its a good idea to be a rescue home for aw hile too se what happens with dogs and puppys from breeders and bad owners who diddnt see it coming .hope this helps joe t

you know they say the sheperd is the most popular breed there is. most familys buy these dogs because they are good with children and they protect them when they sleep.the sheperds here in the states have drasticaly took a toll for the worse .you buy a puppy for 600 dollars and it ends up coasting them a lot more because of health issues.bad hips beeing a major role in this. most familys cant aford to spend this kinda of money to help them so they place them in a shelter or have them put down. i drive a truck for a living and deliver to farms i see the hundreds of sheperds in these peoples homes and they say yeah he has been real sick or the last dog had bad hips. this dog s scared of every thing or he bites every one he gets close too. a german sheperd well breed should not agress every one that inters your home if you greet this person in . the sheperd should be level headed and greet the stranger but always be alert of his owners precence.this is what made this breed popluar. is loyaliity level headed great with all people including kids but protective when need be.in all honesty these dogs were breed for hearding .here in the states we use them for protection. so know we breed them for protectiion. so know you see the breed change and it shows.weeek bones and bad temperments and scrony little sick pups. how is this to better the breed.pretty soon they will be considerd a bad breed if you look to the police departments you see them going to malinwas or other breeds this is because of hip isuues and agression issues.due to people wanting to make a dollar or there inturpitation of what the sheperd should be like. its very simple ALL DOGS ARE NOT MENT TO BREED AND AL PEOPLE ARE NOT MENT TO BE BREEDERS!!! Newsflash........every breeder that is held in high regard by members on this board started at a point far below their current level of expertise. I can only wonder if the first generation of breeders at Bad Boll or at von Kirschental were given the same response as this guy.

GE,
The Cult of the Amatuer has always existed. So has the Cult of the Opportunist.....For example the massive increase in breeding of Collies following the show/movie Lassie, the boom in GSD in USA after Rin Tin Tin, the damage done to Doberman's after the popularity of Magnum PI and the influx of new Dalmatian pups following Disneys 101 Dalmatians.
I get it. I understand that dilution of the breed is something none of us supports. I support my local GSD rescue and have the same first hand experience you do. I also have a certain amount of respect for a person that is honest enough to say I have a dog, it's pedigree is crap, I am thinking of breeding what are your thoughts? He got a loud and thunderous reply of don't breed your male. Good for us on this board. He also says he is trying to improve the breed in his location. Good for him. Problem is that he has no clue how to do it.
Most of the people that are interested in starting to breed will not ask for help and more specifically do not do it on this board. This was a perfect opportunity to influence somebody that is clearly determined to have a litter....don't classify that as breeding since there is no objective for the pups.
If this guy came up to one of us and asked this question in person, I think the tone of the responses would have been different. I think the response would have been more like this:
1. What is the objective of the breeding
2. How many generations back on each side can you prove clean hips
3. Are you thinking of mixing American, W German, DDR, Czech lines? How do these lines mesh? What are risk in mixing these lines?
4. Work/Show or nothing backgrounds
5. Why do you think that 1500 is alot of money for breedable stock?
I am not a breeder, nor do I pretend to be. I do realize that this is hot topic. I also feel that we as a group on this board can sometimes do better.
