second : You do not keep a pup from a wrong breeding and go title it...that is not what SV is...
We dont condone that , either, Shandra...Do you not get it....get rid of all the pups....find you a new female,,,pay for a stud fee , raise pups from a reputable female and a mae.

The statement " someone said his prelims looked good>>>>>Number one the person that told you that doesnt know any better than to sell you a dog of the temperament he has., wouldnt know if he even has hips,,,he may not even have sockets or a femor on either side.
If he had good hips, does he have a pedigree with breeding dogs behind him,? He is not a breedable candidate in most every one that has listen to you..So you dont keep pups from unbreedable dogs..does the female have a pedigree ,,,,are her hips , after having two litters.any good...does she have good traits....
Your letting your heart instead of your head dictate...get a grip, unload all these pups,,do something with the male dog, hes a danger, keep the female for a companion....look for a new SchH 1 female, and then go from there...Keep the pic out of that litter and start your adventure of Schutzhund training....what city do you live by? There are breeders that can sell you wonderful dogs and I know one up the road from you.......Germelhaus....

Nope. Got a bitch with "papers" & got a "stud" for $500 (oh yes reasonable price for a quality male) figured that equaled $$$$$
by Luvmidog on 20 August 2007 - 02:08
Sorry about that MALE
SUEINC : WOULD YOU PLEASE DEFINE:
QUALITY MALE:

by sueincc on 20 August 2007 - 02:08
You can't get a breed quality male for anything near $500. and anyone who did even the smallest amount of research would discover why the dog was being sold for such a paltry sum and not buy the dog let alone breed to it. I was being sarcastic when I said "quality male"
Shandra, I must say I don't understand how someone thinks it's OK to throw any 2 dogs of a powerful breed together to sell as family companions that live for an average of at least 10 years. When will people take some responsibility and quit putting the cart before the horse? Anyway, I'm preaching to the choir as far as most are concerned and the ones with the horrific breeding practices will either change or continue on their merry breeding way. The "I didn't know" excuse just doesn't cut it.

I knew that? I just thought it would be beneficial for someone with your experience to describe what one is. Evidently it needs to be explained in a little better manner..

Lets start with dogs who don't go into avoidance around people, especially children.
No freaking out in non threatening situations.
Actually have good traits to pass on to their progeny.
Proven to be stable in one way or another, title, certification, perfect structure/show, totally clear hips and elbows...I dunno, something, anything! Not just "he comes from good lines". I had him and my female came into heat.
by Shandra on 20 August 2007 - 05:08
Ok so now you are saying that even tho the pedigree may be good, ( Xena's is not, I know that now) that any progeny are a wash out and not worth the effort to train?? That is like saying, Your Mother and Father never went to college so you cant be smart enough to go either.
Sueincc, I paid $500.00 cash plus pick of the litter for Tino, since his pups have been previously selling for $500.00 with an untitled bitch that basically makes the price I paid for Tino $1000.00. Not much by the standards of this board but a hella lot to me for a dog at this stage in my life. If I had known when I got Tino what I know now I would not have gotten him. and to reinterate, I did not breed for $$$$, I had planned a litter of 4 ( or so thats what I thought I would get, stupid me) I was to keep one, The breeder I bought him from would get pick, my Grandson was to get one and the local ACO was to get one. There was no money changing hands anywhere in this. Once again, and I am talking to the walls as you feel you are, I was told by the breeder that I got him from that this would be a good match, I was told by the previous owner of Tino that I had originally approached for studding her last heat that this would be a good match, nice conformation and a big headed bitch. He is actually the one that put me in contact withthe breeder he sold Tino to.
According to everything I have read here, any trainable GSD with qualities that meet the standard for conformation and temperment are eligible to train and participate in Schutzhund competitions. There are other competitions also so I am not limited to the "Elite" competition.
Since we are back on the Tino conversation I did want to mention, I had talked with the previous owner ( the one before the one I got him from) and he said Tino had been around children off and on all his life and had never had a problem, that his children regularly fed Tino without issue. I talked with the person I bought him from and he said that Tino had snapped at him a couple of times when he was trying to get Tino away from a bitch that was to be bred, but that was the only incidences. He did not tell me this before hand.
If Tino is such a bad dog, why would 2 different breeders have used him for studding? Not being argumentative here, Its just a little confusing to have everyone here saying he is so bad and then have two differnt breeders produce many litters from him, one of which is a trainer, PPD, Shutzhund and Obedience. I have alot of questions hindsight that I didnt know to ask beforehand. Guess thats what you get when you take people at face value and trust their Experienced opinion. You can bet your bottom dollar I wont make that mistake again.
